Stay with it Jeff. I would say from what you described, quartering away that he has expired. Might have hit the offside shoulder why it didn't pass through and not much blood. Keep your chin up you may still find him.

Well my boss knows the neighboring property owner and he is calling to make sure we have the go ahead. His land is the only place we didn't look so we are going for it in the a.m. fingers crossed and thanks for the motivation I've been pretty sick all evening.

I have been there too and know the feeling all to well, if you hunt long enough you will experience it. Wish you the best this morning.

Well guys even though I didn't find my buck this morning I figured I'd still share the story of the "The One that got away" . I got up yesterday morning around 500 am and headed over to the food plot because the wind was right for that stand hunted there a Lil past sun up with no sightings so I elected to get down at about 800 and go see about a trespassing issue that had occurred at the ridge. So I get out there grab the letter from the land owner for the intruders and head to the woods. It was one of the calmest mornings in there an everything just seemed perfect so at that point I said what the hay I might as well hunt until noon. So I climbed in my stand that sits in a row of oaks an got settled in. Acorn is falling everywhere at this location and I have a mineral sight about a 20 yard shot away from the stand. It's early and the bucks are moving I'm sure so I went ahead and gave the rattling a try in sequence about 30 mins apart. So about 10 mins after the last rattle I here a loud Crack down the hill so I'm thinking ok a deer is moving in not in sight but close so I grabbed my grunt an let out a few light calls nothing too intimidating. Now I hear steps getting closers and closer and I see him to my right coming up hill and I stood still as can be yet excited because this deer is now in clear view a decent buck wide inside spread with possibly 11 points chocolate in color with a few broken off but still a dandy none the less. His body was good size and he was definitely a shooter quite larger then my biggest to date. By now I'm ready bow in hand he walks past the mineral sight nods down to smell it buck keeps walking closer to me wondering what all the racket was about he stops smell the air and turns around and walks right back to the minerals then starts to feed. I'm now at full draw. And on him he's quartering away slightly I put the twenty right on his heart exhaled and let it go. I hit him pretty confident it was a good shot and he ran off back were he came from 70 percent of the arrow hanging out the other side but hanging on as he bolted. I waited at least an hr before taking up the trail then I finally went to the point of impact and there was no blood so ok I know exactly where he ran so I go maybe 50 yards from the stand and I see blood. The rest is history I followed that blood trail for 300 yds after I backed out an came back after lunch combed through the area me and a buddy and went back this morning with two more for help still nothing. Maybe my shot wasn't as good as I thought is what I told myself as the blood slowly disappeared into the thicket now we were searching for a needle in a hay stack. I learned a lot from this hunt and I gave the animal my all to try an find him maybe he somehow survived a hit like that from a two blade rage hypo. I'll never know unless I go back for one final quest for the one that got away.

Jeff, extremely sorry that you couldn't recover the buck. Mentally that has just torn me up in the past when it has happened to me regardless of whether buck or doe, the biggest trophy or the management deer. Sometimes you just got to move on and chalk it up to the way things go sometimes. Sounds like you really put a full out effort in trying to find the deer and that is really all you can do.

I will be back out soon to redeem myself and I will be looking for signs of where the buck I lost may be if he is dead. If I knew someone who had a track dog I would have went that direction but maybe just by chance this dude survived but I seriously doubt it. I'm gonna put another camera back in that area to see if I can catch him on trail cam I would know him if I see him plus he will have a Nasty scar. These last few days have been tough I've played the shot over and over in my head. I'm moving forward an I will be back out at the ridge this weekend and I have hope for my other spots as well so I'm dealing with my chip as best I know but it's hard considering I hadn't had a real good opportunity at a decent buck since 2012 but there is still plenty of season left and I will redeem myself hope you guys have a great rest of season an stay composed when it all comes together. Best of luck

That's the spirit Jeff. My usual mindset after something like that is exactly like yours. Beat myself up and replay everything thinking what I could have done different for a few days then get back on the horse and ride again. We become better because of things like this. Stay positive and it will come together for you. Best of luck rest of the season.

My 8 day vacation started this morning and I didn't see any deer.

I went back to my roots this afternoon at a property I have hunted for several years now but only the second time this year. I am in a really wholly thicket that does retreat to when being pushed. Lets hope the young bucks pushing doe sparks the curiosity of a big boy.

I can't begin to tell you guys how good of a deer season this is been for me so far seen bucks.

I rattled four times tonight between 430 and 615 when shooting light goes off. The last time I rattled was about 555. Had 2 what appeared to be shooter bucks come in and they just got into my shooting lane after shooting light. Couldn't see the pin couldn't make an ethical or legal shot. Did everything I could - actually rattled a 5th time when the first buck that stepped into the thicket turned and headed the other way thats when the second and bigger of the two bucks stepped out.

    Thanks guys
So little story on how this all went down.
I have hunted hard for the last 2 weeks
    Not seeing much movement
So this morning I hunted till 9:30 and didn't see anything. The problem is the property I hunt is owned by the city and I need to have a doe before I can shoot a buck.
So I decided to slam a couple pumpkins tonight and see if anything happened.
So I settled into my stand at 2:45 and was checking Bowhunting.com as I hear crunching. I look at its an old small racked 8 he walks in front of me at 15 yards grunting and then walks across the wood lot. Then around 3:50 I see movement about 70 yards in front of me. Most people are hoping that it's a buck me I was hoping it was a doe so I could earn my buck tag. To my delight it was a doe now I need her to choose the right trail. She started down to pass right in front of me then was spooked by something and turned to go out of range. Then she started out of range the smell of the pumpkins must have worked because the doe turned and came in to the pumpkins. Now she was facing head on toward me. After feeding for about 3 mins she turned and started walking away she was quartering away at a sharp angle at 36 yards I let an arrow fly among for about the 9 rib shooting for the opposite shoulder. The arrow hit its mark and she piled up 40 yards and made a quick recovery. Now with the cold front moving in late Friday and Saturday I can shot a buck.
