Hunted this morning and didn't see anything.

A buddy hunting a connecting property to our lease (he hunts private land and the leased land I am on) about 3/4 of a mile from my stand was covered up in deer (mostly doe and small bucks) and he shot a doe this morning.

I am going to go back out this afternoon and will hunt twice tomorrow also. We will see how it goes.

No sightings this morning besides on the road going to park my car heard a deer blow this morning no where near my stand and nowhere in sight just off in the distance so obviously something had it spooked but it wasn't me and im the only one hunting this area. Maybe it was a coyote who knows it stopped after about four blows. So I sat til about 8:00 or so got down an went to help the land owner move furniture after that I left so I may be back there soon but im gonna rethink my strategy for this spot I found a tree on it that is dropping acorn way more then the area im sitting in there dropping but not like this one so the next time im taking one of the climbers with me.

Sorry I haven't been on lately and been trying to catch up on the posts. Great job Jeff on the doe kill. I did finally make it to the stand this morning and had a sow and cub that ran when I got to my stand (on a point with a great stand of oaks so I'm assuming they are after the acorns). That's one of my problems, too many bear. When the bear are close to my stands and it has happened several times before the deer movement stops. No deer tracks around the stand and no deer spotted this morning. O well it was a good morning anyway, about 1 hour after I was in the stand a 40 -50 lb. cub came wandering by I would guess looking for its mommy. When it gets a little colder the bear sightings get less.

3 hunts this weekend and I am yet to see a single deer. Pretty typical early season hunt for me.

Hunted 3 days straight and haven't seen a buck on stand. I have a few family doe groups around but I have a hard time killing a momma doe with her youngins around her. I hunted a few different stands and haven't seen a lot of activity.

Guys just got back from my road race in Washington, D.C.
Finished 2369 out of 28000 so I'm pretty pumped
I'll be in the stand Friday morning and that's it for this up coming week
Wife will be in Florida for the weekend
Then the following weekend is the Duck season Opener and the kids birthdays so I'll only get to hunt Friday evening but then I have 4 weeks where I will be hunting all but 8 days

Congratulations!! I know the time and dedication you have put in and think that is outstanding. Hunting has a certain physical element to it that is often over looked by even the best outdoorsman.

I ran D1 track in college and completed my first half ironman this pat summer. I didn't hunt this afternoon and ran 6 miles instead! Balance is a good thing!

Way to go - interested in hearing more about your race!!

Yeah I ran the Army 10 miler this weekend. I had a good race even though I cramped the last 3.5 miles. My electro light tabs fell out of my pockets
I was averaging 7:15 pace till I cramped but still finished at 7:35 pace

I haven't been pushing it as much this year as in previous years. The last couple years I have treated it like a job, but one I love. I always felt the need to be in the woods, knowing it was probably doing more harm than good sometimes and even going to stands knowing the chances of me seeing a buck let alone a shooter buck were low.

So this year I have been laying low and playing it smart. I only hunt the wind. I only hunt stands I think are going to produce (which hasn't really worked so far) and I have tried to hunt as scent free as possible. Haven't bumped any deer that I am aware of but also haven't seen a lot of deer.

So I am not hunting today because I am a pretty die-hard Cubs fan and they are only for a late afternoon game going to watch that. But plan to be in a stand the rest of the week!

Did a liittle shed hunting tonight at a spot I call the chimney and actually had a doe in sight at 80 yards small doe but it's positive to see a deer on her feet just feeding and grazing a Lil bit especially @ 91 for a high today. We are expecting a cool front in the next day with lows in the 50s highs in the 70s so that should get them going!!!!
