Update from my Maine bear hunt. Our flight got in Sunday night about 10 and drove to the camp Monday morning, got ready and went out to the stands Monday afternoon. I was in a great spot but did not see anything Monday night, had a thunderstorm move through that was unexpected and had not taken my rain gear to the stand but since it was so warm (91 degrees) was actually kinda nice. One guy in our party scored Monday night with a real nice 210 - 220 lb. boar. The taxidermist said it had the best fur he had seen this year.

We are forecasted to have some bad weather through most of the week with rain and wind so I had made up my mind to shoot any decent bear given the opportunity and since last week was such a slow week with all the natural food out. Rule of thumb is never pass up today what you would shoot on the last day of your hunt. Tuesday I was in stand in a new spot about 3 p.m. and at about 3:50 I see a bear sneaking through the woods. I see that the bear is nice and one that I would take. I got my bow and looked for an opportunity to stand. He walked behind a bush and I was able to get prepared. He came on in and I waited until I had a good broadside shot. Let the arrow fly at 22 yards the hypodermic went in perfectly about 5 inches behind the front shoulder and as it was slightly quartering away exiting under the offside armpit. 40 yards later I found my bear piled up following a great blood trail. Nice 180 lb. boar and with the way the season is going up here I am happy and blessed to be able to harvest this animal and a great way to start my bow season and get the new Chill R broken in. I will post some pics if I can get my phone figured out.

sweet bear! I am wanting more and more to do this. Last year at one of the deer camps I was at, we ate some beer....very good. Speaking of fine eating. Last night I had some back straps off my last buck. So good!

Awesome job on the bear, that is impressive!

Edited: upon further review this is Wack just a different straight on photo of him and up close and personal. Probably #5 buck on my HitList.

Caboose (The next two). Have this buck on camera close to every single day for the last month. I'm in his kitchen. These bucks are around train tracks on the daily so it was only fitting to name a buck this. The reason he got the name is he is the only one that shows up every single day and often times he was the trailing buck in bachelor groups.

    Wack for obvious reasons.

Edited above with names. I have a few other really nice deer that I'm going to keep off the internet for now.

After looking through a bunch of photos from the past month it would appear Caboose broke off part of his antler on the right side. He has a really thin rack and I think he is only a 3.5 year old deer (maybe 4.5, but I doubt it) - not because of the thin rack, just that I have over 30 sightings of this buck on camera and plenty of angles to review. He would have been tough to pass but I will probably let him walk.

Twitch, you have trains and I have both a highway and a village park. The deer are used to the noise, can be a huge advantage!

So after an hr 1:30 min of on an off sewing I finally got the climber seat done and installed all thanks to Bob and his great idea!!! I believe it will definitely last a bit and will be more comfortable an allow me to get it out of the way when moving around on stand. Easy slide back and forward design with the cushion inside. Heres a few pics. The top is in Trebark camo and the bottom in Real tree. I think it turned out good. Thanks again Bob for the awesome idea!!! Everything is all triple stitched in the thickest thread doubled throughout [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

I honestly dont know what model but they work great I tried lookin the serial numbers up on it no luck but they're in really good shape. The old seat style was stationary and the stand is all aluminum even the parts that grab the tree. Ive tested them went up maybe 20 ft with it and back down with no problem.

JJ, did you pick it up used? I have seen these on craigslist and thought they looked old and heavy. But if they are light and you know how to do a little sowing? well I might pick one up?

Yes they are used and were givin to me from a co worker they are in no way heavy by my standards. They are some type of lightweight aluminum my has packing strap and foot stirrups they're probably worth 100 easy but if you seen any for cheaper that wud be a gud deal but you know people are always getting rid of good stands on craigslist all the time but the newer climbers these days are not cheap at all for a quality one mind you. I just think they're cool too because they're slightly vintage and still wotk do well do whoever the maker is they had the right idea.
