So here is a spot im planning on scouting for public land. It will be my first time hunting it an have never set foot in there but it definitely looks promising. Any idea where I should focus in on? Im thinking im gonna go in and find the main food sources and bedding areas obvious trails etc. Its gonna be a challenge but im up for it. I'll be going to check it soon maybe tomorrow if I get my way. Fingers crossed!!!! [IMG]

To be honest, for me depends on the temp! If it's hot, I'd be close to that pond, if it's normal temps, I'd be by the food!

How much hunting pressure there Jeff. Sometimes you have to get away from the crowd.

Home made tree strap fellas took me all of 5 mins to make, and it works great. At a total cost of 10 bucks the climbers rope is rated for 620 lbs and the hook/Caribiner is rated for like 1000 lbs so thats plenty just thought I would share. I will be using this strap with my climbers and probably with my hang on as well even though I have a lifeline already attached to the tree. Ive never had a problem just tethering to the lifeline but this will help for some added movement. [IMG]

USAF you need to post two pictures in the scoring section or they will not credit your kill.

On this thread he does! I know they did not give a guy a score last year for not putting it in the scoring thread.

Im such a Scent Killer fan I just had to try it. I usually go with the Gold but im willing to try a lil different approach. What are you guys doing for scent control. I keep everything in a scent proof bag after treating, and ill probably do that the day before the opener as always all my camo is washed an ready to be sprayed.[IMG][IMG]

So a guy just posted in the scorecard man you guys should subscribe if you haven't already and he made a mistake he posted his buck and two different poses with an arrow got everything else pretty right but no bow. I dont think they will count his entry lets see how it goes as a prime example.

Guys, getting ready to head out to Maine today for my bear hunt. Getting everything packed is a pain. I have a group of friends that get together once a year and go on some type of hunting excursion. This will be the fourth year we have been to Maine. It is just a relaxing time really and just gets you in the mood for deer season. We don't hunt in the morning and usually leave around 2 - 3 pm to get on the stands for the evening hunt and hunt till dark. Nothing like seeing a large predator sneaking in. People think hunting over bait is easy and I am sure sometimes it may be but in my experience hunting for a mature bear that has been educated around the woods they are very aware there are no free meals and are extremely wary around a bait barrel. Scent control is paramount to success. I have been busted in spite of my best efforts, their nose is extraordinary. For all their size they continually amaze me by not making any noise while walking through the woods. One time up there I had a 450 lb. bear directly under my stand that looked about as big as a volkswagon that I would not have known was there except for seeing him, he came in that quietly. Not at all like deer hunting were you anticipate and love to hear that distinctive crunch, crunch, crunch of a walking deer.

I will be using my new Chill R, 29 draw and 70lb. with a QAD Ultra Rest and an HHA Kingpin sight. Shooting Carbon Express maxima red 350 arrows with 4 fletch blazers and tipped with Rage 100 grain hypodermics. My arrow weight is 425 grains and when I chronoed my setup I was shooting 296 fps. That worked out to 82 lbs. of KE. More than enough.

I am pumped about going, but more about getting away from the stress for a few days and just enjoying the woods. The people we hunt with up there said last week (opening week) was very slow as there was a lot of natural food but by the end of the week they started seeing more bears so we hope that the donut smorgasbord will bring them in next week. Will keep you guys posted as the week progresses.

Well after much debate I decided to take the plunge and buy Sitka hunting gear for the 2015 season. $800 later and I have some nice new camo on the way, ordered via Amazon and most of the stuff has already shipped. Anyone else hunt Sitka?

I have had a mental debate with myself for too long about this, I did a lot of research and I honestly got tired of thinking about it all the time. So I just did it... Pretty pumped.
