I guess I'll just never understand it. Why do schools delay an hour for cold temps? It's -20 or something like that here this morning. So the schools decide to delay an hour. Ok. So in an hour it may be around -19 or -18? Wow the little tikes should be able to shed a couple layers and be much more comfy out there by then. They still have to wait at the bus stop and walk etc.... And it's still dam cold. What is the sense in an hour delay? Either close for the day or on time as usual imo. Matter of fact I think it makes it more difficult on parents getting the kids to school with an hour delay. They have a routine and a lot of them take them before they go to work. Now you have to scramble around finding different ways to get them to school.
So, it's getting colder....and they're shedding layers? That wouldn't make sense, now wouild it? Best I can figure, they're giving everyone a little more time to get to school.....to eliminate the rush. I don't think it has anything to do with temps.
NY, In Wisconsin they have that quite often...not so much for the kids, but a lot of the school buses that pick up the kids wont' start, and this gives the bus company a chance to get them going. Usually in Wisconsin I've seen 2 hour delays.
Did you miss his sarcasm? lol I can't figure out when this delay or cancel thing started for cold temps. All through my school years we NEVER had delay's or cancellations because it was too cold out. We only had them if we got a LOT of snow.
Of course I didn't miss his sarcasm. I just thought the answer was pretty obvious (the temps DROPPING and them shedding layers is just funny).
On Friday In central Mn we had -30 below and school was still on as usual . I think Fitz had -41 below up In northern Mn. Sissy New Yorkers!!
Nah we didn't get to -35, we had a balmy -27 a couple nights ago. Winds are killer at that temp though.
People and kids feel more comfortable moving when the sun comes up in the case of inclement weather, thus the one hour delay.
If it were -20, here. I would be on permanent delay. I would be tucked tightly under a huge comforter, next to the wood-burning stove, sucking on my thumb and crying for my mommy.
Yep. The actual temp isn't that bad. I mean ...it's nostril hair can't breath freezing cold, but manageable. If the winds kick up with those low temps though it gets ugly.
