I tried shooting with both eyes open this weekend and it just didn't work. It is very frustrating. Now I am wondering if I am shooting with my non-dominant eye. Depending on which "eye test" I do, I get different results. I guess it is possible that I could also be center dominant. I do know one thing, I drove my fiance crazy this weekend talking about it. Thanks for the replies guys!
I know and it is very common for someone to be dominant with one hand and dominant with the opposite eye. I choose to shoot this way and won't be changing. I shoot just fine.
I shoot with dominant eye open and the other squinted a little. Works pretty well for me, recently I started shooting recurve and that's all both eyes open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Plan on giving this a try tomorrow after work. I am sure that I am overthinking this, but I have been beyond frustrated with this issue all weekend. For a bit there I as convinced that I have been left eye dominant all along, guess that I could be, but I am starting to think more and more that this is a center dominance issue. Or, hoping at least.
My eyes keep fighting one another for dominance. Going to take some practice. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
I like having both eyes open. i feel like it gives me more of a better view of what im shooting at while im still making accurate shots. but thats just me.
I am determined to make this work. I am debating trying one of those blinders that some target shooters swear by. Anyone ever hunt with one of those?
Both eyes open seems to help me balance while I'm shooting, which naturally leads to me shooting better. But it might not be for everyone.
I just found out that I was left dominant and shooting right handed for 12 yrs. if I shoot with both eyes open will my shot be off? Sent from my iDen
Better in what way? I have heard many guys say this. Would I more accurate, consistent? Sent from my iDen
I like this question because I have done both with bow and guns. Since I started hunting I started researching and reading a ton of material and after practicing and hunting for a couple of years with my bow and shooting with one eye closed, I read an article that said you would have a better sight picture and become more accurate shooting with both eyes open. Well with all the shooting I do I am all for more accurate so I tried shooting with both eyes open and it worked,,, for a while. Then I go back to one eye or just squint my non-dominant eye a little to make sure everything is lined up properly. The better / wider field of view is much nicer. I read another article that talks in detail about this and I know it has helped me to eliminate some target panic and not feeling "rushed" to squeeze off the shot. I have taken 3 deer this year with my new bow with both eyes open so I think there are a lot of things working in my benefit. I practice 3 times a week, my new bow shoots really well and shooting with both eyes open has been really good for me.
I have eye issues and thankfully my right is the undamaged one and I shoot right handed. I do shoot with both eyes open though but a peep forces me to aim correctly. Try an experiment... just something I have discovered. Cover an eye and look at your target with the other... does your sight remain clear? Probably so... that is why the eye doctor gives you that paddle when you take an eye test. Then try closing the same eye tightly; how does your vision appear now? Many people will notice the image is significantly darker and blurrier when the other eye is closed tightly. It is definitely that way for me. Many target shooters use patches on the non aiming eye.
With both eyes opened You have lighter picture and its better distance measuring. Here is a good article for this topic - Eye Dominance and the Shooting Sports | Bowhunting at Bowhunting.Net
