I was just reading an interesting article, in what I believe to be a reputable magazine. In which an older gentleman was telling the story of his latest prize buck.
After this guy finishes his homework, and places his stands accordingly, he finally sees this deer (beautiful oddity of a rack, BTW). This buck comes in to the corn field at a run, turns, then proceeds to a slow trot. After he clears the last sapling, the guy shoots. Now tell me this…

How many of us out here, feel comfortable enough to shoot at a deer while it is moving???

I for one know I could hit it…But I also know that odds say, my hit would most likely be less than ethical. Therefore I would not do it.
Why do I know that I could hit the deer? Because I am cool like that… No? Okay.
Back in the “Good ole’ Days” of High School times. I used to shoot an indoor 3-D league weekly through the winter months. It was challenging, but rewarding. They always changed up the shots, and some days added new challenges to over come. One day, they finally added a cable from one side of the bldg. to the other, and had a random 3D animal (javelin, and other medium sized targets, I think Carp was the last one I saw) set up on a pulley system to launch when the shooting team was ready. This simulated a moving shot quite well. It also showed me the difference between moving, and static targets. Then again, I was shooting a rather outdated bow, with 500+ grain arrows…lol
Needless to say, there were a lot of misses, a lot of broken arrows, and a lot of laughs.

Again, Who would feel comfortable shooting a deer on the move, and under what circumstances???
Sorry for the long read. I just get going some times, and right now, I'm bored at work...

most of the time i personally wouldn't. if the deer was already spooky or alert to my presence or something, and me making a noise( mouth grunt or whistle / whatever you do to stop em) would make em bolt, i might consider it. i've read and seen, and live by taking the first "best" shot and not waiting for the "perfect" shot. that being said i'm not completely opposed, but i'd say most of the time i'd take my chances trying to stop the deer vs. trying to shoot it moving.
