Unbeleivable morning hunting. AT 645 this morning I have a 180+ class BC 10/12 pt come walking to me from my left. I'm in a blind. Then I spot another small 6 pt w/him. They're milling about 40yds in a small grassy area. I' m tucked into a thicket & can't shoot anything to my left due to vegetation. So the big boy makes his way towards me, I pull back and I'm waiting for him to walk 20yds infront of me,AND......... nothing. I lean out slight foward & he gets within 15' & turns left to walk away from me towards the 6ptr. So I don't panic, I let down, pick up my doe can & give a yelp, they stop look & then keep walking, AWAY! nnnnooooooo, COME BACK COME BACK!:bash:

Chances are he was headed South for the border. We all know there's no 180" bucks that live up there anways. :D

Yeah, I think he was a migratory deer.

Kitchen, I hope you get another crack at him. I'd love to share some of his tenderloin on those sandwiches next summer.

I did try to grunt & light rattle a few minutes after the doe call, but nothig. I hope I can see him later today. that is the biggest deer I've ever seen. It looked like something you'd see on a hunting video. So close, but yet so far.

I know the feeling of one like that walking away...but I also know the feeling of success that those encounters give me. You didn't fail by any means. You succeeded in getting a mature buck within your shooting range. You won...to an extent...and you were on the ground. I would call that a good day and watch for him again!

    Yeahhh....about this.
It must suck to be seeing deer. :hater:

but really, one of that magnitude. That really would suck. No worries. I am sure some rifle hunter, a mack truck, or some jerk off poacher will take care of him for you. :d
    Just kidding.
I am sure your hard work will pay off in the end.

    Best of luck.

I went back out that evening. I saw just the tips of antlers moving thru the woods directly ahead of me, about 40-50yds in the really thick stuff. Could'nt tell if it was him or not. I grunted a couple of times, but I could hear branches breaking going away from me. Bummer is that because of my work schedule, I can only hunt there on Tues evening, & that's it, until I return from gun opener on monday. but if he shows, I'm going going to smoke him w/a gun. But I'm sure he didn't get that big from being stupid. I just wish it would be with a bow, rather than a gun, IF I get him. But if I do, I'll definitely post some pics here.
