I knew there was a reason I didn't like it. It's like the all-star game. It's like baseball.......When Roger Clemens threw at opposing batters, knowing he didn't have to come to bat. It's like the QB wearing a red jersey....and can't be touched. No fighting? In hockey? This is a BAD idea. It makes pansies into something they're not.....and makes physical players less valuable. I don't like it AT ALL.
While I agree, it's still hockey and entertaining to watch. It's a little like watching a tense tightly officiated playoff game where no one wants to cross the line & take a penalty, but you'll still get a lot of punks pushing more than they otherwise would, knowing no one is going to thump them & take a penalty.
I dont think its fare to compare it to an allstar game because no one cares if you lose an allstar game... You can tell all the players wanted to win this tournament and were putting their bodies on the line by blocking countless shots. It was also way more intense than a playoff game. But i agree. Fighting regulates the game and without it anyone can do anything they want. Like olli jokinen just walking up to patrick kane and just slashing him in the feet and attacking him because he knew there would be no repercussions
If you want to watch a fight turn on spike. It always bugged me when poeple say the race sucked, there werent any crashes. Same for a hockey game
TJ It's kinda like the little brat kid....who has a tough, big-brother. The kid taunts and terrorizes other kids who would normally POUND him.....because he knows his older brother will take up for him. That's what International rules hockey is like, to me. That's why I don't care for it.
I didn't get to watch any of the hockey games because I was working. I'll say this though that fighting Is part of hockey, It has It's place.
exactly... its like the enforcers are the police... The fighting in hockey is not solely for entertainment purposes... its part of the game and keeps everyone in line... its actually to protect the smaller more skilled players
Yes.....BUT....Int. rules allows those (normally) "protected" players to cross a line they're not usually able to cross. I've seen plenty of "enforcers" turn the other cheek when their "quick little star" crossed a line. Kinda like a papa dog - stepping aside and letting his son get his ass kicked, when he starts acting too tough (or stepping outside the boundaries). It's a beautiful game, when the players are allowed to police themselves. International rules hockey takes that element away from them.
Guys seriously. I was a 5'4" 115 lb wing. I can never ever remember a "fight" from one of my team mates cause some one roughed me up. Trust me it happened alot. Some of those guys hit like a Buick. Fighting is not part of hockey, although it has been accepted and even praised in the Pro's. Go watch a H.S. game and see how many fights breat out. If they do match the refs do they let them swing untill the hit the ice, probly not huh.
Just like most any sport..... There's a HUGE diff. between HS and professional hockey. I never played the game. But I can tell you when someone's getting ready to get lit up......and why (many times). I disagree that fighting isn't part of the game. I think it's an INTEGRAL/"potential" part of the game.
