Ahhh brutal! I definitely don't tell the other guy too much about what I'm seeing, try to be as vague as possible. I did invite a friend from work to come out if he wants to this year as he lost his grounds to a divorce. I have an admittedly soft spot for anyone that wants to hunt that doesn't have access to adequate land to do so.
I actually shot this buck when he was 4 1/2 but it was at a real steep angle and I hit him low. Didn't see him at all when he was 5 1/2 and no pics either. Started getting pics of him in October of last year then daylight pics in early November. I knew I was going to kill him then and boom I got the news.
Yea that sucks man he's gorgeous! The one I'm looking at this year I have seen a couple of times in the same field. No where near that size but I think he's gonna very respectable even after he sheds his velvet and I like the looks of him, very light color coat.
If I get to go this weekend I'll keep an eye for the one I'm looking for this year and try to get a photo of him.
Here's 3 of my main ones I'm after this year, no pics of them yet, but I've seen all 3. This buck is tall and has serious mass this year he is really massive and has added several kickers.
As you can see I have 3 monsters that I know of and we have several other very nice bucks 150 plus range. I'm definitely blessed to have great property to hunt.
Absolutely! I don't think any of mine are quite that size lol but for my area at least 2 of the ones I've seen in last month are going to be above average this year with 2 more pushing the same range, all 8pt or better. Good luck, hopefully you get to at least one of them before your cousin this year!
No doubt that's my wish for this year too lol. Opening day for me anyway which won't be until the 2nd weekend, on call for the 1st. What state are you hunting in Shawn?
East central Ohio. 2 years back I killed a nice 11 point on opening day. Had daylight pics of him everyday, morning and evening leading up to opening day. He didn't disappoint showed up like clockwork opening morning and I nailed him. Wasn't my biggest deer ever but he had a beautiful coat and grossed at 140". I wanted to take this buck on opening day cause he'd be my first opening day buck and my first September buck as well.
Nice! I almost had a real nice 8 close enough last year on opening day but he was about 7 or 8 yards outside my comfort zone and I didn't want something stupid to happen and send him off injured. Sounds like you're not to far from me geographically, I'm just on the other side of the River in WV.
That's cool. I'm 30 minutes south of Canton. Last year I had a nice 3 1\2 year old give me a 15 yard broad side shot on opening day. He was about 130 inches and I passed him up. If he stays an 8 he should be around 150 this year. Unfortunately last year I ate my buck tag.
Oh yea not far at all then that puts you around new philly yea? I'm in Parkersburg but my hunting grounds are little farther east. That's always rough, I ended up using mine on a young 3 but it was in November and I was getting deer hungry bad. Nothing like a freezer full of fresh home grown meat.
No kidding one of my old man's college roommates lives in Dover. Or at least he did a while back, to my knowledge still does... can't for the life of me think of his name right now though lol. We used to stop through there on our way to cedar point sometimes to visit but that's been a decade and a half ago.
