I got off work with not much time to hunt. I setup in the 4x4's area just hoping to get a doe since it is close and not much daylight remained. About 15 - 20 minutes into the hunt, a doe comes through too fast and no time for a shot. Well I had to take a leak and her timing just plain arsed sucked. LOL About sundown... I see antlers coming. I knew right away who it was. I am pretty sure I was smiling big time. I got ready. He walked in front of me perfectly broadside. 20 yards away and he stops. You couldn't have ask for a better shot. I drew back and put the 20 yard pin on him. Finger pressed gently down on my release trigger.... I hold... thinking do I or don't I. He stands for a few seconds looking ahead... then walks out of my shooting lane. I following him with the bow and the pin never leaving the spot. Next opening is roughly 25 yards and he stops once again perfect slightly quartering away. While the temptation was great... I passed and watch him walk away as I let down. And yes... I will probably regret it !! At the moment I feel I am on top of my game. Bring on the tall 6x6, Flyers or the short tined 6x6... I am ready to rock. Tim
Wow Tim, that's a great buck you passed on!!! Best of luck on the one your after. The wiz part was funny!!! :D
She was a big doe too. I wasn't smiling then !! Since I've gotten my doe tags last week... Does 5... me 0. They are killing me. Last night I was hunting in the edge of a cattail slough. Had a big doe under 20 yards and my broadhead got caught in the cattails as I grabbed the bow. It made just enough noise were she trot by my shooting lane. She never blew but was curious. She then came into the cattails and spent the next 15 minutes in the cattails with me trying to figure it all out. She was within 5 yards for a couple minutes at one time but no shot. Tim
Good job. I've had quite a few passes that I thought I'd regret but I never did. The only way to get what you want is to patiently wait. Good luck.
That's a hard pass Tim. You're a better man than I. Would have been lights out if he was in front of me. Look at the body on him. Hope you get on those other two... must be real bruisers.
Thats the one you passed? Nice deer if you didn't have photos of the others I bet you would have stuck him. LoveTrail cams best deer tool invented.
I dont know if I could have passed on that old boy Tim, but considering what you have glassed, taken pix of and trail cam'd this summer. I understand. Still off the ground, 20 yards broadside on that old brute, i think I would have drilled him! LOL Dont u have two tags?
