I was just chatting with some old military buddies of mine online and one of them said the word "Compagno's" That's all it took to bring back a flood of memories of the best Market and Deli in the world! This place still is right outside the west gate to the Presidio of Monterey, California and still serving the community.

I have not seen this place in over 35 years but clearly remember their ham and cheese sub that was $2.50. It was so big I could not get my hands around it and there was enough sandwich to last two meals. The presidio used to break different classes at different times for lunch so people could make it to the sub shop and back in time.

For a deli and market to make food that is remembered that long after the last experience, they are doing something very well.
