Old Compass Info Needed

    I was given this compass many years ago. All I know about it is it was made in France, it has a brass case and cover and a locking mechanism for the direction pointer when the cover is put on.
    Please help age it and appraise it for me.

    Without a date on it, it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. It's not too terribly old as it appears to show magnetic and true north (Arrow & N on the compass). Take it to a antique dealer and have them appraise it.

    This is the only one I could find for it, it sold back in 2007 for about $65. Says it is early 1900's. It is the only one that I could find that had a counter balance or whatever that is going through the needle pointing North.     Actually the loadstone is on the south pointing end (or tail) of the pointer.
