I got out this morning and saw a couple of does but they were just out of range. Time to finish packing and off to ID tomorrow. Good luck to those of you getting out in the next couple weeks. Soccerdan, I hope you enjoy your elk hunt.
Didn't have a chance to get out this weekend due to my son's 3rd birthday party. Will be out all next weekend though. Hopefully have 50 points on the board after that.
Another slow day in wi yesterday, checked the camera on the way in yesterday afternoon and the night before there was a heavy antlered, short timed 8 on camera at 6:45 pm. There was also a nice 7 a few nights ago around 11 pm
I am leaving for Colorado this afternoon. The car is all packed and ready to roll. I just have to do this thing called work? I will check in if in can.
Anyone that is hunting this weekend, good luck! I probably wont hunt again until the VA archery opener on October 4th.
I'll be washing my hunting gear this weekend and start practicing my LW setup. Also be headed to Cabelas on Sunday to pick up a GPS.
Saw 6 does on Saturday but nothing in range. The mosquitoes were horrible and I couldn't get my Thermacell to work Found some good spots to sit and we had a rain storm that came in shortly after I left the woods so all my scent was washed away.
Sitting on a log 2 miles off of a road 10600 feet above sea level! Haven't laid eyes on an elk but I haven't given up.
Ive been playing cat and mouse with a 8 point behind my house the past few nights. Still some daylight movement with him. Im going to set up a ground blind for him tommorow night. I'll check the cameras again then as well
Good luck man. I am prepping for VA bow opener next Saturday. I am mentoring a new hunter this year so I hope to get him on some deer.
Colorado is beautiful! Haven't seen any elk yet but have heard a couple bugles. It's tough hunting out here. Some great people in camp. If I had a moose tag I would have had a 20 yard chip shot on a BIG cow. Lol. Wish I would have bought a deer tag since they are everywhere. Such is life though. I still have a couple days to get it done. Altitude hasn't had any affect on me and I am thankful for that! So far 1 elk and 4 deer have been shot in camp. Christine was 20 yards from a 200" mule deer. Wow.
