Story is really simple and a simple hunt. I own a very small section of woods behind my house (like 1/3rd acre). My neighbor has about the same amount of woods and allows me on it, yet I rarely go on his side. It is a tiny little wood patch that is a nasty funnel come the rut. I hadnt hunted it all year because I have been allowing my friend to bowhunt it. He is a new hunter and I didnt want to burn out the spot. I waited for nasty weather to hit, then I made my move and set up in that little funnel. I knew the deer would move. Within 20 minutes on stand I saw something run by pretty quick. Twenty minutes later I had a spike come by at 10 yds. About 30 minutes later I catch movement and see an interesting buck at 10 yds. The ground was wet and walked up on me before I could even get my bow. I was situated only 12 feet in the tree because it was the only tree with good cover. He looked right at me. He took one step back then started to circle me and look at me. I closed my eyes because he was trying to determined exactly what I was. He stood under a thick tree for a couple of minutes. He was a tweener buck....I was unsure if I wanted to shoot him. Then he began to quick walk and I just instinctively picked up my bow. I told myself I have another buck tag so I am going to shoot him if I get a chance. I tried to stop him but he wouldnt so I raised my voice loud. He stopped, turned and looked at me, and I drilled him. Through the middle of the shoulder and out the middle of the shoulder the other side. He ran 30 yards and tried to jump over the creek, only to die within 20 seconds. Quick death, quick hunt, I love it.

Looking for some insight. Buck or doe decoy? A little background, private property that has plenty of food sources (recently logged) and buck to doe ratio favors the does by a hefty amount. Am thinking that Bucks will respond to a new "threat" rather than another piece of tail. Let me know your thoughts.

I've never used a decoy for deer....but your reasoning sounds logical to me.

Good luck to those hunting tomorrow. I will be out until 10 tomorrow morning. Should be breezy with a cold north wind.

Was planning on hunting both sat and sun but looks like the wind is going to howl up to and maybe over 30 tomorrow... I may just have to wait until Sunday.... Good luck to those hunting!

Wednesday night went out and didn't see anything except bumping one on my way out. Yesteday afternoon had 4 does come by(hunting in a buck only zone of WI) and one buck out in the field about 100 yards away. Not sure how big he was. Today heading to my best public land spot that is surrounded by extreme QDM lands. Probably the best spot I have to kill a 4 1/2 or older buck. Good luck to everyone out there and remember to stay safe and don't take any shortcuts!

No hunting for me this morning. Those jello shots at the end of the Halloween party did me in. I woke up at 445 and still thought about going but quickly changed my mind. My friend shot a buck last night. He didn't see arrow impact, no blood in the field that we could find, and couldn't find an arrow. We never stepped foot in the woods and are headed back out shortly to look.

Saw seven tonight with two separate sets chasing. Nothing big yet but had a great hunt.

Hunted all day. Had some very button bucks running around and a few does bedded close to me. At 12 I had, what looked to be a shooter, 70 yards away. He was tailing away so I tried to give him a few grunts. After stopping for a moment he bolted, not sure if he caught my wind or not.

After the buck encounter I decided I needed to be further up the ridge so I got down and moved. Had a small 4 point hang around in the afternoon but nothing other than that.

Now that the time is changing, I probably won't be able to get out for awhile. I'm taking off work Thursday to next Wednesday so I'll have plenty of time to hunt.

Story, score and many more pics to come, but I'm speechless. Yesterday morning, 21 points, 20 1/4 inch inside, 4 drop tines, 260 lbs field dressed, a buck of a lifetime for me. I feel so blessed.
