Anyone hitting the woods this weekend?

Today I made a ground blind and prepped two trees for next Saturdays Virginia bow opener.

Saw my 1st elk tonight. I think I'm leaving 1st thing in the morning. Almost killed a beautiful coyote but it busted me on my last step that I needed.

Probably won't be doing much. Might pull some camera cards that are in easy access areas then shoot with some friends. Set up a 3d target behind the deck so I can simulate shooting from a stand.

Also will go set up the LW a couple of times to work out all the kinks.

It sucks that you couldn't get one but it's not always about that. Hope you had a great time, any plans on going back?

Hey guys, just got back from Idaho yesterday. There is no elk in the freezer, but it was sure a good time. We were in bugling bulls and their cows every morning and evening except one and I was within 75 yards of a bull at least 5 different times. The final evening I had a 6x6 at 12 yards but based on his angle the cover of my groundblind, there was just no good shot. Back to whitetails, good luck this weekend for those of you hunting.

I'm not bummed out at all! I didn't expect to shoot one. I will do it again in a heartbeat. I highly recommend it to anyone!
It was a blast but can't wait to get home to my wife and daughters. Never have been away from them this long.

Glad you guys had great elk hunts even though you didn't shoot anything. It helps bring us back to reality that it isn't always about the kill but about the experience. That being said good luck going after some big bucks now :)

Very true. I got some scores to settle with 4 legged animals! I feel kind of sorry for iowa whitetails in the coming weeks!

Set up my treestand today. Took about 20 minutes to set up but I was going very slow to minimize noise.

Also loaded everything up and walked around a bit. Not too heavy and nothing was shaking around.

Jake that set up looks nice. I got a Muddy stand this year but I havent purchased any climbing sticks yet.

The weather looks great for VA's opening day on Saturday.

Plan to hunt quite a bit this weekend. Highs are supposed to be in the low 50s so maybe that will spark some movement. Who else is headed out this weekend?

Going up to the lease later this morning to check my camera. Then will decide whether I will stay and hunt the lease or come back down and hunt one of the properties closer to home. The only problem with hunting the lease is it is in a county that is buck only this year. Hunting the properties closer to home I can shoot either a buck or a doe. So I am leaning more towards coming back around home unless I see something very big on my camera, then it's a no brainer :) Good luck to the other guys and gals that are getting out this weekend!

No deer this weekend for me. The wind was a killer.
