I hung a new stand at my property Sunday and pulled camera cards and was pleased to finally have some bucks hitting the mineral site. All summer I probably had only 2 buck pix until mid August, then they started showing up.
I live in the Pryor area here in NE Oklahoma. I've been a member on the site for along time now. I will be bow hunting in Mayes, Cherokee and I usually go out west to the Woodward area for a few days during rifle season. My boy will be hunting Spavinaw WMA this year as he drew his first youth hunt! Went up this weekend to hang a stand in a trusty ole spot that we've hunted for many years on the refuge. Anyway, it's great to see so many okies on here. I remember back a few years ago there were only a couple of us on here.
A few pics from yesterday morning. The 8 point is one from last year. He hasn't gotten any bigger, and i'm pretty sure he's gotten smaler either from less food or he's reached his peak and stating to drop off.
The left one is 2012, right is 2013. I'm pretty sure they are the same deer, but I don't know for sure.
Not from OK but moving down to Altus at the end of Oct. and hope to sneak on one of the WMA's to at least take a doe and fill the freezer this year! I will be hard at it the next year though! Heading down that way to be an Instructor at Altus AFB can't wait to get down there!!
October 1st needs to get here faster! I'm getting nothing but does on the camera but I don't even care.....3 more days!!!
Those are both young deer. No question about it. Wait till next year and if they make it you'll see a big difference. If you decide to take one or both of them, then good luck. They'll taste great! :D
Thanks, it's been a while since I've been up before daylight. It's about time to get the habit started again!
Yup he's right. With the fog this morning it took forever to get light here in NE OK. Dad and I are heading to the stands at about 6:15 tomorrow. It's about a 5 minute walk from the house. That 8 point is a monster for my area so if I see him he's dinner! There are so many deer in the area and since we're inside city limits there are too many for the available food sources and they don't ever get too big. For some reason these deer do NOT taste like deer at all, the steaks taste just like beef. I took one in KS last year and that big bastard was so gamey it was almost too much for me. I hope you all are safe tomorrow, please don't forget your safety harnesses and try not to get West Nile lol. Can't wait to see all of your pics.
Student in Stillwater here. No comment on the WV game last weekend. Will be in stand tomorrow am up North! Best of luck!
There is supposed to be a front this weekend. Hopefully it cools things off a bit. Good luck felas. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk 4
