Just returned from a fun little adventure down to Oklahoma for a hog hunt with an old college buddy of mine and another friend of his. The place does both free range & high fence. We were high fence so I'm not gonna pretend it was some crazy safari, but for flat out fun, it was a blast. The place was loaded with hogs. I chose to use my 44 mag revolver. The other guys were mostly using bows. I shot one sitting over a feeder, but the real fun was spot & stalking. When you have dozens of eyes watching out, it makes it fun. They are some skittish beasts. Even at the feeders, they come in easy, but also spook easy.
The 2 things I really learned about hogs is 1, they are really fast. 2, they are tough!!!!! I'm talking physically tough, hard headed, mean critters. They can take some punishment and go a good ways after being hit.

One of the hogs my buddy got was a 200# sow that charged him and died just a few feet from him as he emptied his 357 sig into her noggin.

    Here are my 2 boars

The bottom one was bigger than the top one, although in the pics it looks the other way around. The top one dropped in its tracks with a quartering to base of neck/spine shot @ 15 yds. The other took 2 rounds before going down for good, both of those shots were a bit farther. 40-45 yards or so.

My apologies to Vito for not having this up by noon.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. That is some good eating right there.

Send me some bacon off one of those beasts, and your apology will be accepted.

Toughest beasts I've ever hunted. My son and I go every year to OK to do some damage. We've been bow only for the last 2 years. The first 2 we shot we lost; Son rolled one on it's back with a .270 and found almost no blood, and I shot one late afternoon with bow, pass through quartering away, again almost no blood except on the arrow. Lots of fun though!!

That right there is some ugly looking bacon. LOL Feral hogs are going to take over the world. I know... yours' isn't a feral hog but I'm just saying they're exploding. They're even getting entrenched in parts of NY State. They urge everyone to kill them all if you can.... because they know you can't.
