If i were being deployed hunting would be the last thing on my mind, I'd spend as much time with my family as possible! Killing a big buck just isn't very important in the big picture.
Gotcha and I completely agree with you. I hope no one here (servicemen or not) would side with him. I heard enough from the "storyteller" to realize this was pretty much a common practice for them. If everything else changes....one thing never does...and thats people thinking they're some well-accomplished buck hunter b/c they killed a bruiser buck under the light. Top it off...this guy is going to have this buck on the wall. Wonder if he will make up some BS story about how he was freezing his nads off and stalked this buck for 2 miles?
If he really did what the story teller says, he is a disgrace to the nation, the military and to all hunters. That kind of action is what gives hunters and military a bad name. End of story.
it is a violation of the law and he should be arrested and punished for this crime. Is it alright for him to go to Afganstan and kill something or someone when he was not lawfully permitted to do so. I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont know about anyone else but i dont want someone like that protecting me and my family if he can not obey the laws himself. I just had a friend return from IRAQ, he missed the entire hunting season last year and he didn't have to go kill a deer before he left to serve this great Country. Contact your Local Law Enforcement agency and turn HIM in AND HIS BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm with you, Chris! :D I have a buddy who is being deployed next month. He kills a whopper buck, virtually every year. He's likely going to miss 2 seasons but he's not *****ing or poaching deer.
If I had anything to do with it he wouldn't have that deer on a wall. I'd be calling Operation Game Thief here in Texas and turning him in. I'd hope that the deer would be confiscated by the warden and the poacher arrested.
X2, being a soldier is an honor in itself, but it doesn't earn you any extra rights that allow you to break the law!
Turn his butt in!! Tell the Game Warden it's in the Freezer. He won't be dployed as quickly with the pending legal charge!
Trust me guys...I would turn his butt in but like I say...I don't know who he is. I don't even know the name of the guy telling his group of friends the story and I didn't start asking names and details when I heard this. The only thing I really have to go on is possibly the county it was killed in and the fact it was an 11 pointer and the fact it will be checked in on opening day. Maybe that would be a good start for an investigation.
