I guess life insurance is a stupid purchase as well. There is nothing wrong with storing away some provisions in case of an emergency. To what extent one goes is up to them.

I don't think storing away "some" provisions qualifies as preparation for long term survival when SHTF...there are many people around the country who have more or less dedicated their life (and their families) to preparing for the end of the world...ever watched any of the reality shows on Discovery or National Geographic showing these people?

    The life insurance comparison....really?

I have seen the show. What i have observed is people spending money on stuff they enjoy. They are usually proud of their accomplishments. How is that any different than dedicating your life and spending all of your disposable income on bowhunting, and getting your family involved in bowhunting as well. Its not for me but I certainly do not consider myself above or better than anyone who opts for that lifestyle.

Exactly. I dont see how some of the answers above are fair, like 'preppers, more like retards' for example. Whats to say they are wrong? Or who are we to look down on them. Thanks kinda rough to me. I get laughed at all the time when people see or hear how much I spend on hunting and fishing. But its my choice and its what gets me through the days. Prepping is their choice. Its a heck of a lot better then spending that money at the bar. Sure, some of the ideas is a bit far fetched. But, its their life, I see no problem with it. Again, I think its more nuts to not be ready for something. Years of supplies is a bit much in my opinion, but a few weeks would be smart. So much can go wrong and has gone wrong over the years, and its a bit nuts to sit around and hope Obama comes and saves you should something happen. But, we all do have our opinions I guess...

Having a weeks worth of supplies, and having a bunker stocked full with canned goods, ammo, guns, etc is a completely different thing. And, IMO, these people are retards.
