I'm breaking down and going to buy some scent control gear (pants, shirt, jacket). What the heck it can't hurt right! I only have $250 to spend what will be the biggest bang for my Buck (hahaha). Do I start with a base layer and get a jacket + pants next year.

And don't tell me to save my money, blah blah cuz it do work. DON'T CARE

Just point me in the right direction
    Thanks

Get a silver base layer. Silvertech or H.S. or something like that. If you want to go the cheap route on base layer get the Rocky brand base. Their base has a coating called Atomic IQ. I've used the scent blocker in the past and it has worked really well. After about 3 seasons there about worn out. I bought the Field and Stream No Scent last year because it was cheaper. It uses silver instead of carbon. I don't think it works as well though.

Cabella's has some reasonably priced base layers. I'm certainly no expert but I'd start with something like that.

Well I can't follow both of those requests at the same time. They are opposing ideas. :moose:

IMO saving your money IS pointing you in the right direction. Instead spend that money on a pair of hiking boots (and burn through them while out scouting), a few wind checker bottles (best scent control regime on the planet), and a scouting camera or two (nothing fancy, any that takes pictures will suffice)...

No set of clothing will help one kill a deer any more than the previous one (as long as you aren't wearing something with a noise factor equivalent to tin foil). Putting in the work to pattern the deer and understand where/when to setup will though! :tu:

I worked at Scent Lok for 4 years before joining the military, so I have first hand experience in seeing this stuff work! I just recently bought a Scent Blocker set though because they offered a military discount. I think Scent Lok works better, but Scent Blocker is more functional for a bowhunter, and I'm extremely scent conscience as it is.

Depending on what climate you hunt in, they both make a product that will fit your needs. Just shop around for the best price.

I use a silver impregnated base layer and then scent blocker outer shell. Remember that the silver scent control only keeps bacteria growth down thus preventing the creation of new smells. The carbon scent control items filter and trap scent so they control all scent, old and new. Good luck.
