Have always wanted to do this, was going to try a full mount on a yote awhile back but decided that was to big of a step for the first time. I have watched and watched and watched my tapes on this, studied ear butt muscles, eye refrences and what ever I could get my hands on! My Daughters boyfriend does some Taxidermy and has offered a hand if I get in a pinch! I finally got the measurements today, skinned the face, and cut the skull plate off. Its back to the freezer with the cape for now until I have a day to flesh and get started on the tanning proscess. I aint scared a bit, have skinned many critters in my day and have some artist type skills with details. Ill take plenty of pics along the way and post. SO here is day one!

Good luck. I am also just getting into taxidermy. Just bought a kit from van dykes to do a squirrel. Hoping im good enough to start doing all my own critters at 1/5 of the cost.

Awesome Dan. My buddy I brought to the G2G just finished taxidermy school, so he is starting to mount his own now.

    Good luck!

That's ballsy crick! I'm sure you'll do fine though! I've always wanted go try it myself, but i don't think I would trust myself on a deer like that.

A lot of patience and concentration goes with taxidermy. My girlfriend started in 2008 and loves it. Best of luck to you on your first mount. I will be looking forward to upcoming pictures.

whats the worst that can happen, it doesn't come out great? you're trying something everyone of us wants to, hasnt yet, or doesnt have the balls to do! I've found that some guys just have the artistic knack for it, I know a guy who has done 4 or 5 total in his life and every head has come out better than that of another guy that I know that gets paid to do it! good luck
