What are you seeing on your trail cams right now? Of the deer that are showing up hard boned already, what are the size of the racks and age of the deer?
Haven't see any hard horned yet, but the big boys didn't show on last week's pull. I'm interested to see what I find when I pull cards this weekend.
East Central Iowa. I can't find my cam. a buddy took it down last year and it's not where he said he left it.
What few I had show up over the last 2 weeks were still in velvet, but deer movement dropped considerably compared to the previous pulls from this summer.
Didn't get many pics Monday when checked. The last two weeks have been pretty hot though so I'd say that has something to do with it. Had couple spikes and fork horns that didn't have velvet but most everything else did. Didnt get any pics of the big boys so hard to say how they're doin. This is west central Illinois by the way
I haven't pulled the cards in a few weeks but the last buck I got on camera was still in velvet. If we get a drop in temp and a little rain they will be rubbing. I'm not worried about not seeing bucks, I am seeing tons of does and that means two things. 1. I can do some QDM and 2. Bucks go where the does are when the rut hits.
Had my best pull of the summer this past weekend. Lots of 3 year olds with a few older than that. I have only seen one starting to shed velvet so far.
Just pulled tonight. Most of the bucks are still carrying velvet. I did get a real nice 8pt out of velvet and I bust a buck I call Beast tonight and he was full hard horned.
Is southeast Kansas I'm seeing a 50-50 split on hard horned vs. full velvet bucks. Those that shed did so between August 30 and September 1. Seemed like the majority were year and halfs with a few three and a halfs in the mix. Not sure what the mature bucks did because I can't seem to get them on camera consistently this year. Hard horn means fall is here so I am happy about that.
I'll be pulling two cams on Saturday, which is tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have some bucks on cam. They are both in spots that I've never had a camera at.
My older deer, 3.5 yr + are shedding or have shed. Both bucks and does are already changing up thier patterns from summer to fall. Really starting to pile in on some of the usual fall areas
