Im a firm believer in you get what you pay for.....But does it apply with Trail Cams? I have a 100 dollar bushnell and 3 70 dollar Moultries, They all take great pics, not blurry and all are 5.0 megapixel and IR cams. What Im getting at is, for those of you that have 150-500 cams, do you really see a difference between them and the 70-100 dollar cams.
First is Moultrie. $100.00 cam Second is reconyx $500.00 cam The pic with hound is that $100.00 cam so u tell me if there is a difference in them.
Honestly the covert red 40 takes just as good if not better in some cases than the reconyx. That is in daylight. Now for IR you just can not bet the reconyx. Absolutely the best. Yes u will still get blurry pics but only a few per every 100 pics.
I have the cheapest 2.0 MP I could find, in fact I have four of them.... couldn't care less about picture quality, as long as it takes a picture that I can see, and they do that just fine. I paid $29.99 each.
I'm not criticizing, but I certainly don't see $400 difference between those two camera images. Now, once you start talking about dependability, shutter speed, distance sensitivity, etc; that's where the more expensive ones probably distance themselves from the pack quickly. One of those things that if you think it's worth the extra cash; then it's worth it. Of course, I buy UnderArmour hunting clothes and lots of guys tell me I'm crazy to spend that much on camo too, so as with most things it's a matter of resource allocation.
It all depends on what you have and are willing to spend. Some guys have $1500 Bows and some are using $150 ones and are getting the same effect. I cant afford a $500 camera, so I have to look at the ones around $100 which still do the job fine for my purposes and take decent pics in both day and night.
yes you definately get what you pay for, picture quality may be same but dependability is what counts in a trail camera.
