Picked the grandson up from school and spent the afternoon on opening day in the blind with him, had 10 does and 5 bucks in front of him for over half an hour eating winter wheat.
Here's a buck I took during last years 6 day firearm with a 12ga H&R slug gun, 2 3/4 lightfield ammo. I'm anxious to see what this year brings, monday starts this years shotgun season.
Just as I had hoped. Took this one with my 44 mag at about 50-55 yds. Thought she was a bit closer until I went & looked back at my tree. I still have some tags, a guy at work wants a deer, might try and get him one. This one went to my parents.
Congrats on your pistol kill, Ryan. You may think this is crazy (coming from me), but I'm not above taking one with my 1911......and I'll have it on my side for the remaining 2 weeks of our season. If the opportunity arises, I'm gonna take it. Fine shootin', buddy.
I've often thought of that myself Jeff. I'd love to get the handgun permit to hunt NY southern zone and PA, and during firearms season take an iron sighted .44 along with while primarily bowhunting. Would be a fun and interesting new way to hunt the firearms seasons in those areas, where I would usually only be carrying the bow.
It's illegal for me to carry while bowhunting in NC....even with a CC permit. Once the firearms (post ML) season opens, I'm golden. I'd LOVE to take one with my pistol. Right deer, right place, right time.....and I'm gonna take one out with it. Just check your regs, guys. My (NC's) have changed for the better in the last few years. There used to be a 6" barrel min.....then a 5.5" min. Now, there is none. Cal. has to be .357 or greater. Got that covered.....lol.
Thanks guys. For all you out there considering it, I say go for it. Pistol hunting has really been fun for me because its very similar to bow hunting with having to be picky on your shots.
Had to dig WAY back to find this thread. Shot this girl this morning, with my shotgun. My 1st time out in over a month
Congratulations Ryan! I pulled 8 stands yesterday.I was pulling a tobogan through a few different pieces of woods.I certainly wish I could have still been hunting!
My son's first! I was standing 15 yards away and watched him shoot it on the run at 45 yards, dropped her in her tracks. He is very confident in his shooting with a bow or gun! His first words were "see Dad, I told ya I wouldn't miss", it was awesome!
