Hang in there. This cold weather will get them going. I've been seeing plenty of chasing here in Akron area.
That's what I was afraid of Been in stand for over 1.5 hrs now and haven't seen a deer With the cold figured they been moving and it suppose to be the rut Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was hunting last Sunday, sat all day and had a 130+ class buck cruising for does around 11am was hanging just outside 70yds couldn't change his mind to come closer and had another smaller buck dogging a doe around later in the day. It's here just need to get where the does are and hope one in comming into or in estrous. Also I have had good luck with calls as far as grunting put a few different bucks under the tree but nothing I wanted to shoot. I also rattled in a buck in PA which I shot, but that was back in late October..so I would think calls would be even more effective right now just need the right deer to hear it and respond. Good luck all I'll be back out all day sat and Sunday.
Was out this morning. Didn't see any chasing but had three does come out of corn field still up and bed down in middle of corn field which is down which was odd. But there was steady 15-20 mph wind the whole time so I didn't expect much. I'm giess next week or so there I'll still be plenty of movement
Anyone have any new rut reports? Do you think its in the post rut phase? Or are you a believer that it hasn't really started yet?
It's not post rut at all, it's still the first one. Breeding should have started or is starting in the near future. Lockdown soon then post rut. Bucks of all ages are still on their feet at least where I'm hunting. It's different everywhere, there's no set standard for the rut and the timing IMO.
Was out this morning in the snow. No activity today but couldn't stay up too long becuae of work. Wish i could've waited til at least the snow ended today.
It has been completely up and down for me. One day we see 8 pointers chasing does and the next day we're lucky to see even a young buck or doe strolling. I think this cold weather we just got and the new moon will keep them from doing much at night and they will be moving during the day to chase, tend, then feed. So things should get better this week. The few times I tried calling to bring in a buck they stopped for a few seconds and then put their nose back to the ground but someone in the county above us said rattling has worked for them.
I was out tonight. Southwest ohio, saw a fork buck cruisin. That was it for me. No tracks in the snow hardly either. But a buddy of mine saw multiple bucks and does in fields while driving home and one buck was a 10pt with a lone doe. I was off all week last week and didnt see much rut activity. Hopefully this snow and cold temps all week helps out if it isn't already over.
I agree. Based on the science, more does are bred on November 25th than any other day. So I'm hoping this weekend is good.
Have to respectfully disagree. My brother knows a game biologist, and he maintains that the rut occurs around the same time, give or take a day or two, every year. A lot of factors go into what kind of rutting activity you notice, such as buck to doe ratio, temps, hunting pressure etc. I've been bow hunting since 1992, and I agree with what he says.
I also wanted to add that the Biologist says the peak of the rut happens around the middle of November each year in Ohio.
I had 3 bucks chasing a hot doe on Saturday morning and a nice 8 pointer on her trail a couple hours later. The big boys have been locked down for about 10 days now, in Warren Co.
I hunted last night, seen 8 does , right before dark in a picked bean field. No Bucks. Deer in my area seem to not be moving until right before dark.
I will be able to get back out this weekend. Hopefully wielding the new Mathews HTR. I havent seen much activity while driving around this week.
Haven't been able to get out all week and this weekend doesn't look promising either. Super bummed wanna get out there
