Nothing in the AM.. As I pulled into the farmers field to park, opposite side of where I hunt. I saw a decent buck and a doe in the headlights at 5:50am. They didn't spook, I crept off in the opposite direction to my stand. Saw nothing on stand. Exited at 8:40 AM

The evening hunt I'll head out about 3:00, heading to some public land, I have a nice area picked out dripping with Acorns, the winds right, it will be the first sit there. Packing in the Lone Wolf amd we'll see iif anything developes.

The most action I had was a fox playing around right behind my tree. I really didnt have a good morning stand for this wind, but I had to get out in the woods.

I'll be out this afternoon, pretty wet here too.. But the reason I didn't make it out in the morning is because we went out for my girl's birthday last night.. I need coffee :o

One of my buddies shot a 105" 8 point on public land a few counties South of here though. None of my other buddies saw anything either.

You guys get that front that's moving through? I'm glad we're not opening this weekend here in PA. It's coming down pretty good right now.

True. I just don't hunt in rain. I'm not risking a chance at losing a blood trail if I would happen to require tracking.

I haven't decided if I have "learned" that lesson yet. It still stings a bit (losing that buck), but I have had to many productive sits in the rain to stay on the couch.

What do you think of the weather report for next Sat Matt?

Iffy. Looks alright for the afternoon, not too cool, but not super hot either. Those showers Friday evening could easily change/drag into Saturday morning. Hopefully it stops. Could work in our favor if it rains up until just before legal shooting time.

Unfortunately, any kinda of rain near the cabin lane means fog and that means low vis. I will be out there rain or shine though. I am more excited for my first sit down home here on Saturday night.

I had a good morning. This morning makes my 24th concecutive opening morning. It is probably about the 15th or 16th year of deer around me opening morning. I saw my first deer at 7:19. It was a decent buck, probably 120-125 ish. He was came out of the woods beside the woods I was in and walk across the bean field in front of me and into the corn field beside it. After he went in the corn I looked down about 30 yards in front of me ( in the beans) and there was a little basket rack. I then noticed he was one of my old friends from last year that I watched several times. My buddy and I know him as " Limpy", as he has a stiff right front leg and limps when he walks ( but he sure don't when he runs!!)> While he was out there, a doe with 2 fawns came walking right by me. Then a real nice doe all by herself walked out of the woods beside me ( The corner of the woods I was in and the corner of the bigger woods connect corner to corner, with about a 5 yd gap between them. We have a stand just inside the corner, perfect set up with numerous shooting lanes. Anyhow, the big lone doe stood directly facing me. I was already for her to turn broadside and give her a "terminal case of freezer wrap"!!! She had other ideas. She never gave me a good shot. So I watched them all for about an hour until they all endep heading into the corn. Pretty good morning. 2 bucks, 2 does and 2 fawns.
I stayed until about 10:30 and had to head home. I can't hunt tonight, dangit!! Sundays are my NFL day, so I will be back out mon.
I have a new math equation from this morning.
    2+ 2 + 2=? Answer: A great opening morning!!

Well I got into the woods at aout 3:00 for an evening hunt. It went well, saw 4 deer total (all does and a fawn), one doe in range but it was too thick to shoot. She never walked into one of my lanes. Also saw a longbeard with a 10" beard, easily. It was a good opening day in Ohio, just nice to have a deer in range and get the old heart pumping. I missed that feeling. October 1st in Hoosierland is what I'm really waiting on :D.

    Good luck to all
