Well i got kicked off my best hunting property, landowner waited till saturday to tell me . But i had planned hunting in this swamp bordering a corn field opening weekend all summer long. There are 3 very nice bucks in the area. Saturday morning i didnt see or hear anything, just watched hundreds of ducks and geese. Went back out and got in the stand about 430 saturday afternoon. About 6:00 im stretching a little and i look down and one of the bucks i was after was right under me, came from behind. He took off, and there was a doe right behind him. About 5 minutes later i see a big doe with 2 fawns sneaking through the willows, i didnt think i was gonna get a shot. The mom stepped into a little gap in the willows, and i knew i could get an arrow through there. The first fawn cleared the gap and i let the Hoyt go to work, shot was at 13 yards. This little guy ran about 30 yards and piled up in the cat tails. This was my first Kill with a mechanical and i am extremely impressed. Tracking this guy in head high cat tails was no problem. Ive never killed one opening day, and its always been a dream of mine. My swamp buck had about 140 less inches than i planned but im no trophy hunter, and im happier than a fly on poop He is gonna taste mighty fine
"He was letting other people hunt and didnt want it over ran" I have been best friends with this kid since 1st grade, and have been the only person not in the family to ever have permission to hunt. I have been hunting here since i was a sophomore in high school . It not even like i would be able to hunt that much anyways, I go to WVU and the property is outside of columbus ohio. They were always kind of a pain anyways, always had to call and could only hunt when someone was home, couldnt shoot bucks the first 3 years i hunted there, Couldnt hunt during gun season because family was hunting even though the only hunted opening day anyways.
Ok, well that still stinks. Good luck the rest of the season. Maybe they will all make him mad and you can get it back, ha.
Sometimes people are strange when it comes to their property, and that's their right. At least they let you hunt there while they did. Probably not your friend's call either, probably came from his parents Congrats on the opening day kill!
Congrats on your deer. You stated you always wanted to kill one on opening day. That makes this dear a true trophy. Way to git-r-done. Blessings.......Pastorjim
