The first week of November I had 2 instances that cost me 2 deer, 1 buck and 1 doe. After that week I had a hard time getting back out. I felt like my season ended that week. I can thank my wife for this buck. She kept telling me I need to get back out there and get her some deer jerky. I decided to hunt an area I have never hunted before. I grabbed my climber and made my way out. Just as I left the truck I jumped a doe bedded at the edge of a corn field. I continued on and found a tree for my climber and began heading up. Half way up the tree I glance in the field and see a buck running across entering the woods to the south 80 yards off. I pause and make sure he wont be able to see me finish climbing and all was clear. I sat for about 2.5 hours when to my northwest a deer appears. A buck! The same buck I saw earlier crossing the field. I grab my bow and slowly stand up and attach my release. He gets behind a tree and I draw. He takes a few more steps and I stop him at 15 yards perfect broadside. THWACK! He takes of and runs in about a 30 yard circle and dies within throwing distance of me. I sit for a while and collect my thought of what had just happened. I just smoked my first buck with a compound bow. He looks like an old fighter with busted of tines. Not a monster but I couldn't be more proud of him. Where he expired from my tree stand in the center of the picture.
Big congrats to ya Joe! It has been a pretty quiet year for the Ohio boys this year, super happy to see ya put one down
Great work OH! Way to stick it out. That is really cool that your wife pushed you forward and gave you confidence to get it done.
Thank you leadoperator, Josh, ISiman, Iamyourhuckleberry, fatsbucknut and bow freak. It really means a lot. Once word gets around the woods, the other bucks might sleep better at night knowing their safe. Tonight I realized the bed of my truck is to high. Lifting him up into it was a challenge in itself.
Joe.. that guy is a BRUTE! and that is your first buck ....wow!!! You set the standard high right out the gait!! Great job, man!!! Congrats......OH, and that woman of yours .... she's a KEEPER!
Thanks Vendetta, Dubs, Sliverflicker and Preacher! With my bow it is. I have a couple by means of firearms.
