Two weekends ago I got back up to our farm and disced in 400 lbs or Urea and broadcasted 2 acres of groundhog radish, rape and 3 varieties of turnips. We were extremely lucky to receive rain within 24 hrs of finishing this. Today from the looks of the radar our plots are getting blasted with rain. With all this heat and some moisture in the ground I'm excited to get back up there and check it out. If I would've planted anytime in July I think our outlook for a winter forage wouldn't have looked to good.
Hope things work out for you. We need rain bad around here right now, Keeps going north and south of us. Good luck!
I know it. My lawn is all but burnt except for the nutsedge. Our NWSG that we planted last spring are loving it up there though. They have really taken off.
Please take all the rain away from us. My beloved Hawkeye State is just getting hammered. I've only been on the Skunk River Catfishing in my Jon Boat 1 time this year. Now, it's the highest I've seen it in 35 years and my 80 year old Daddy says he's seen it run higher. More rain on the way. We'll see what happens. I should add, no worries for me we live on top of a hill, the bottom land down in the holler is floodin' .
wow hard to believe places so close are so dry. Wettest summer all-time here. Many towns along Skunk River flooded big time and it's not over as it runs south. we are to get a few dry days , that should help.
No sir, I'm extremely busy this part of the month with my bachelor party and wedding. I probably won't be back until 2nd week of Sept.
Good stuff! We just plowed up part of an existing plot for a fall/winter forage planting. We harrowed it yesterday, but the soil is still do damp do get a good break up yet. Hope to get my WW/Clover/Chicory in soon.
Finally got back up to my farm this morning to get my first morning hunt in and check out our brassicas plots we planted first of August. The acorns were really dropping this morning with the help of the very gusty northern wind. Our brassicas blend is really taken off in our 2 acre food plots. The NWSG we planted last spring has all went to seed and has really added much needed cover to our once cattle pasture full of fescue. Saw two little bucks this morning. Plan to go to another farm tomorrow. Forecast calls for lows around 35 degrees tomorrow morning. Love the fall. Nice turnip and Groundhog Radish Switchgrass, Indian Grass and Little Bluestem with 2 lbs of Forbs per acre
