I am dreading it. I don't want the orange army out there sending the bucks into nocturnal mode. I'm not against gun hunters, just worried about what they will do to the pre rut patterns of mature buck. What are your thoughts?

Going to see a lot more bucks being tagged the day after early muzzy..... (claimed by bow)

Unfortunately true. I hate the new check system. While it was a pain to have to take deer in to check them, it was worth it.

Just looked into this further. Can't even shoot a buck with archery that weekend? That sucks! As someone who can only hunt weekends, to have one less weekend that I can take a buck is a big blow

I think it's a terrible idea! Is it correct that bow hunters can't even shoot a buck that weekend?

I just confirmed in the regs that it is doe only and you have to wear hunters orange just like you were carrying a muzzle loader. Its in the deer hunting section, things a hunter can do, number 8. Now I really don't like the idea.

Probably won't hunt that weekend. I'm sure if I did, I'd see a shooter for sure. That's usually the way it goes.

The way I read it, all other seasons are open and legal.

I'll probably still go and make sure I have a camera with me so I can at least "shoot" him with something. I hope we have hard rain the whole weekend starting Friday at dark until Sunday at dark.:hater:

This is why the bow-hunting lobby comes across as a bunch of whiners most of the time. How long is your bow season? Are you really going to pitch a fit about guys that enjoy hunting with muzzleloaders getting ONE weekend in October? Really?

Also, accusing them of killing all the bucks and then putting bow tags on them....seriously??

Just because some guys choose to hunt with a different method, does not make them a bunch of poachers that are stealing "your" bucks and bow season.

We have had an early muzzy season here for several years and it lasts for 9 days which includes TWO weekends. It has not been a problem. The sky is not falling. The bow-hunters get over three months to kill a deer. If that's not enough time.........

Its not about how much time there is. Its the fact that the law takes a weekend away from guys that predominantly hunt on weekends and puts the orange army in the woods getting all the deer on high alert, especially the mature bucks. If the goal is to use the early antlerless tags by gun hunters they can leave them active for the first couple days of gun season instead. I don't have anything against gun hunting, I go myself, I have a problem with the timing and the law that I can't take a buck if I get the opportunity.

I live in PA but I hunt most of my time in Ohio. I can see both sides to this, ya it does suck that you can't shoot a Buck those two days, but it's only two days. The season runs from sept 28 -feb. 2nd that's a looonng time to put a buck down. I try to hunt weekdays but I am forced to hunt alot of weekend as well and in the past 4 years it really hasn't effective my hunting, just puts some early pressure on the deer and need to adjust hunting location accordingly.

I don't disagree with that. Problem is this, with the kind of luck I have, that is the weekend I have the biggest buck of my hunting life walk past my stand at 15-20 yards without a care in the world and all I can do is sit there and softly sob. That will be frustrating.

I have never heard of such a long bow season. Wow, 128 days. Ours is 86 days because it is closed for the gun seasons. You still get 40 more days of hunting than we do. Seems like two days during the dog days of October is a small price to pay for another group to get to enjoy the resource.

Ya I hear you, just don't go hunting that weekend (as hard as that is going to be) and you won't have your heart broken by an old stud maybe go scout some new areas or something else productive to help your odds on putting one down.

Ya it's crazy long and hunting Sundays is a major bonus and a nice change from what I have been used to living in PA
