Welcome to the winning team Jason, chasing any big bucks this year?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey guys quick question. If you killed a doe would you use that same set again? It never happened to me but this year I plan on knocking down one but I'm afraid if I shoot a doe I'll scent up the area and ruin it and my sets is awesome for all conditions. Any input from you guys will help!
So me personally, I have sets also that produce does and bucks. But I have one set in particular that I know I will be hunting this year for early rut, so I won't shoot a doe on that set and won't sit the set until the right time comes. That being said, the does I kill for meat will come from another one of my sets that has more population of does and I need to thin it down a little. Both of these sets are on opposite sides of the farm so it works out as planned for me. Everyone's situation is different tho Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Howdy Jason.. Tyler.. early season hunting a food plot I wouldn't take a doe if I new I was hunting specific buck from a that set... now if I was just doing some blind recon on that set then sure I'd scratch the itch. Taking does early is always on my agenda, cause come the last week of October and through November I prefer to let the ladies walk. As always your situation drives the decision to shoot or not.
I don't really know. The property that we hunt on we also live on but we don't own. The farmer has a no doe policy. While I am at college me and a buddy go hunting at the game lands and try and take a doe a piece. I have never ran into this problem before.
Yeah it is odd but for some reason our doe population never gets out of hand in our area. So it justifies it. Also we kill enough solid bucks on the property that there is no reason to make him mad and screw it up. We take 5 or 6 bucks above 110" each year between 7 hunters.
Holy smokes sounds like you have a buck sanctuary. How much land are you hunting? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The farm is made up of 3 sections which total about 400 acres. The main piece that I hunt on is about 110 acres.
Sharing my excitement with you a little bit guys--- These bucks have been hanging out by this food plot all summer. Hopefully they stay around into the first week in October. I really want to shoot the wide one. His name is Harley. He is at least 5 years old. Have a lot of history with him. He is not the highest scoring buck on the place, but he has my attention! This is the view from a stand I have on the other end of this farm that sets in a pinch point. Seen lots of buck scat there when I was checking cameras recently. 12 yards to the field edge with multiple trail all around it. I have caught this guys on camera there.
That's definitely enough land split between 7 people. I live and hunt on 150 acres personally. Sometimes I wish I had a hunting buddy to be able to cover different spots at once, but again, sometimes I love the seclusion and setting goals and sticking to them, not having to worry if the other hunter will do the same. I will be adding my fiancee to the property this fall, i'm hoping she'll stick her first deer this year!
She's already telling me that she's going to kill a bigger buck than I have on the wall haha she's a winner!
Here's the super 8 from last year(a super 8 for around here haha) here's the first buck I mounted, killed in 2011 on my family farm in southern ohio
