Hey guys haven't been on in a while between trying to hunt, doctor visits, and early thanksgiving dinners. No luck for me in the early season but look to add points in the late season. I'm looking to get a lock on tree-stand, can anyone point me in the right direction for an easy one to put up and a fairly cheap kind I just want one for my one set that is really hard to get my climber up and down.

Do you want to leave it up all the time? I like the Guide Gear Deluxe Fixed Tree Stand

Ill probably leave the stand up and take the stakes at the end of the season depending on what the farmer wants me to do

Check out that stand I sent you. Most comfortable stand I have. Large platform and awesome seat

Well yall, the past 2 mornings I've been skunked! Oh well, hopefully I see one eventually..

On a brighter note...miss Lori and I went and cut down our Christmas tree today. Boy were we in for a surprise!! (We didn't think to measure the ceiling height in our house, nor did we measure the tree in the field). Needless to say, we had a good fun time this afternoon with our new 12' Christmas tree haha! We had to rearrange our whole living room so the tree would fit under the vaulted ceiling.

I had to trim the top, so I got the pole saw out

    Chris,
Beautiful tree man! Remember BIGGER is better. Now the trick is talking her into a smaller one next year. ;)

Is that a cedar christmas tree?? It's comical for me since our christmas trees here in Maine are Balsam Fir trees..

On another note, finally got a chance to score my deer, not a huge amount of points to add, but better then none I guess. Gross score is 83 5/8''. Our season ends a week from Saturday, hoping to get another deer on the ground.

Haha hopefully I won't have to convince next, she wanted the tree in the corner of the living room, not the middle haha hopefully that'll be good enough for a smaller tree.

It did turn out a nice looking tree. We decorated it later that night, here's an almost finish product.

Congrats on the deer! Have any pics?

The tree is a Lelyan Cypress. Our mountains can grow the tradition christmas tree, but around here they can't. So we decided to do a southern style christmas

I have 2 tags for NC and 4 for VA burning a hole in my pocket. I want to get out this weekend but it looks like rain. Color blindness and rain make it a no go for bow hunting for me. Could use a gun but I prefer not to. Had a decent 6 show up on the cams we never saw before. Bare minimum I will check the cameras and put out more corn. Gotta keep them fed, that and lack of pressure keeps the around for late season. ;)

As soon as I saw the picture I remembered seeing it. Congrats, makes for good venison!

Miss Lori and I are headed out today to hunt. Hopefully we'll see one and get a chance to shoot at it. We're craving some venison!

    Chris,
I hope you and Miss Lori faired well today. The afternoon was a misting rain here so hopefully you did not get soaked. Going to try to head out tomorrow supposed to be no rain and a drop in temps so I will definitely be out barring no unforseen blockers.

That will make a nice rug. Are you going to tan it yourself? If so what do you use to do it? I see you already salted it up good.

Yup we're in the process of preparing it to tan ourselves now. It's our first time doing it but I think it'll turn out good. The next step for us is fleshing as resalting

While you have it salted if you can tilt the surface that it is on so the fluid runs off. put a piece of plastic or tarp below it to catch the liquid. Good luck and keep us posted on how it turns out. Don't forget to turn the lips and ears if not already. Lips have fat and need to get the cartilage out of ears. I usually just get a scapel set from a hobby store to do that. Good luck.

Sounds like you've done this before. This will be my first, but I'm learning a lot. Quite enjoy it too. The places that were less fatty have already dried well but other places where I needed to flesh real good and didnt are taking a little longer to dry. I have it resalted (3 times) and wrapped it up and put it on a tilted surface like you said. Know of any good homemade tanning solution? Or even a good store bought one?
