All set up and ready to rock. Little chilly this morning, had a slight frost. Corn is all cut, but there was a big bright moon and no clouds last night. Hoping they are hanging in the field until sun up, then see if I can talk one into walkin by my stand....

I will be out tomorrow afternoon hunting in a stand that I have avoided all year. It's sits in a long narrow wood lot with a ditch running through the middle of it, and is surrounded by ag fields. It's so thick that hunting it in early season is almost impossible due to the thick foliage and under brush. With the leaves off you can see down into the ditch and under brush for 50 yards in all directions.

This stand has been move 6 times over the last 10 years to get it in the exact spot it is now. I drove by the woods on the way home tonight and they have all the corn out around it.

They are calling for 15-20 mph winds and light rain.

Time to break out the foul weather gear and try to get it done.

Good luck to those of you hunting tomorrow!

Sounds like the exact spot that I'm going to try and hunt tomorrow afternoon. Hoping for a buck to walk it for the cross wind

Well-- I wish I could say I added some points for the team tonight, but all I can say is that I treid sorta.. Saw 2 shooter bucks this afternoon. Both were moving so fast chasing does that I never could get a clear shot. Ended up seeing 15 deer in all.

Now the sorta part... I took the wife along today hoping to get her a slam dunk shot on a doe. Tomorrow is the last day of her deer hunting vacation for the year. She doesn't do cold weather hunting...

At 4:10 we had 7 does feeding our way. I told her that she needed to get ready. She stood, got her release on the string and prepaired for the shot... Long story short is that she drew three times, Fist time the angle was wrong and I asked her to let down after holding for about 30 seconds. The second time her arrow pulls loose from the nock and I had to reach up while she was at full draw and put the arrow back on the string. The third time she couldn't get her bow over the shooting rail. Finally she lets down and I ask her if she is done.. I know.. not the right thing to say at that point, but hey we have been married for 33 years. I stood up ... reached over and grabbed my bow.... I drew as I swung back on target just to see what the shot looked like.

BANG! I touched the trigger --- I and watched my arrow sail right over the doe's back.

Jeezus I love bowhunting.. Just when you think you got it figured out it humbles you all over again!

Just a note for any of you shooting the stainless steel Grim Reapers.. Sell them and get the steel model.

Went to pull my broad head out of a tree root and heard the point snap as I wiggled iy back and forth.

Not good.. I dont need failures in broadheads at this stage of the game.

I stopped at the arhery shop on the way home and picked up a three pack of kill zones.

Sorry to hear bout that. Ok the broadhead it's good to hear you found out on a tree and not a hoss buck. Killzones are great and will definitely hold up.

Well we just crossed into IL not too long ago!! Left my house at 7:30am Thursday morning, will be arriving around 3:30 this morning! We are hunting Randolph and Perry county, a friend has land in both counties that we are hunting. I shot a 160" buck out here last year and a doe, hoping to get another good one again but we will see!! Going to nap for a bit then hit the woods this afternoon!

Well I wasn't able to get out yesterday and hunt before the cold front. But the good news is Miss Lori and I are headed out to the farm after work to get an afternoon hunt in. Our only double set is on the edge of a bean field that is about 70 yards from a road. It's not my preferred sit this time of year but spending time with Lori in a stand during a fall day is worth it. So with a little grace from above maybe we will be able to have an encounter with some deer this afternoon!

Also, i'm going to try and see if she'll film the hunt with the canon. If so, hopefully we'll have something enjoyable to watch and look at afterwards!

    Good luck boys!

Man was I close today. I was hunting over corn and picked soybeans this morning. Had a lot of deer in the corn before dark but once it started getting light nothing was moving. I didn't see my first deer until 8:30. At 9:20 I caught a glimpse of one of our hitlisters 70 yards to my left in the woods. I only saw him for a few seconds before he disappeared into a thicket. I didn't see a deer after that. I got down at 10:15 and was checking my trail camera by the stand and he ran up on me. He was standing about 3 yards from me. He was obviously in full rut because he didn't have a care in the world I was there. I tried to get an arrow knocked but he put his nose to the ground and was gone. I am headed back out now to try and get him.

I bet that got your heart pumping! I had a doe come walking by at 7:40 at 20 yards, she was headed right for my shooting lane so I started to get ready to draw and she stops and turns directly toward me and starts walking all the way until she's behind me. I had no shooting lanes where she walked. Then I here another deer start walking in front of her. A buck stands up (bedded 30 yards behind me in the thicket). Needless to say I wasn't able to pull any shots off. These carolina woods are too thick. I also couldn't tell which buck he was, only caught glimpses of him and my binos fogged up on me.

    Exciting morning tho!!

Well it all came together yesterday at 3:15 pm and I failed to seal the deal. I had this buck walking the logging road where I killed my 10 pt. last year.

He was going away from me so I grunted at him twice as he went behind some brush. He turns and starts walking to me. I immediately stood up, grabbed my bow and positioned myself for a shot. I drew as he walked behind a tree and stops at 18 yards. He lowered his head and starts smelling the ground where I had previously walked in. I found the only clear opening in the beech tree between us and settled my pen behind his shoulder. I held for about 4 or 5 seconds making sure my pin was right on a spot behind his shoulder and squeezed the trigger on my release. I watched my arrow light up as it went through the limbs closes to me and then right as it got to him it veered off left and down. An unseen sapling had just ruined a perfect hunt.

The arrow sounded like a 22 going off when it hit him. He fell down at the impact of the arrow then gets back up and runs 50 yards and stops. He starts wobbling and stumbling and I pray he falls right there. I could see my luemenoc lit arrow sticking straight up out of the back of his neck about 4 inches in front of his shoulder blades. It looked like I had about 7 or 8 inches of penetration. He stumbles again as he walk off into the thicket.

Despair sets in as I sit there for an hour and a half replaying what had just happened. I finally got down at 4:45 and went over to the first place he stopped. The blood sign looked like he was blowing it out his nose. I followed pretty good blood for a couple hundred yards before dark set in. At that point I backed out.

I talked to one of my buddies that was hunting the same farm and he said the buck walked past him about 15 minutes after I had shot him. He said it was making a weird wheezing noise with every step he took. He was hunting another 100 yards north from where I stopped trailing the buck.

Going to start looking for him again at midday today. Got several of the guys hooking up with me and have called our dog tracker.

Bow hunting can be such a heart breaker!
