It's been quiet on our thread. I hope that means everyone is out chasing deer. I, unfortunately, will not be able to get out this weekend. Too many family commitments. Good luck everyone.

Missed my first deer tonight... Just sick. Last light, He was at least an 8, and under 20 yards.

5 minutes before last shooting light and my pins were extremely hard to see... Glad I didn't wound him but still can't believe I missed at that distance.

Man hopefully you get another chance at him next time when you go out. The seasons young though maybe you'll shoot a bigger buck now!

Tough luck for sure. Better to clean miss than wound and never recover, though. Season is still young. Keep at it!

The good thing though... I had deer ALL around me last night. There was at least 6 feeding in the field in front of me when the 8 came out. Going to stay out for a few days to let things cool down - Good thing is that none of the deer bolted off, just ran a bit and looked around.

Low light shots are tough and I've passed many I am split on whether I should have or not....practice is some in the yard in similar conditions. Hope you get another chance at him bud!

I've decided its time to invest in a new site to help better my chances just a bit in these scenarios. I'm running a $30 tru glo that I got with the bow... I know had those pins been a bit brighter he would be dead.

All in all it was an excellent learning experience!! Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

FWIW-In general, longer fiber=brighter pins (unless you have a pin light).

Black Gold sites changed my life when it came to pin brightness.....I have joked I can see them with my eyes shut.

No complaints on my HHA either, but i have a super small peep on that bow (maybe 3/32").

On my usual hunting bow I have an unknown brand pendulum site with a large peep (probably 1/4").

So long as you're considering a new site, do you have enough visibility through the peep or do you shoot a peepless rig?

That's also a good point... I believe I am shooting a small peep as well - I will ask them about it tomorrow!

Thanks for the advice guys. I kid you not the fiber on my tru glo is maybe a few inches long - Time for an upgrade!

If you can find them, vital gear sites glow in the dark. Mine is lit up on my walk into the stand on morning hunts...lots o fiber optic length.

Bigger peep definitely helps in low light situations.
