I am about to enter him, I just got outta class. Thanks for the congrats guys. I will give the story later today probably.
Way to go Cole, what a beautiful buck, Chris said to tell you congrats also. It's going to make a great mount with that short haired cape.
Thanks everybody! I'm working on getting some more pictures sent to me right now. I first started seeing this buck on camera mid summer, while he was still growing. He basically only had main beams, but I could tell he was going to be nice and wide since he was already past his ears. He showed up on camera almost every night, but he would show up like clockwork around 7 in the morning in the draw I killed last years buck out of. I figured I had him patterned pretty good at that point. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, he just vanished. I never got another picture of him once the acorns started dropping, so I was stumped on where he could have went. I hunted that draw a couple times, with no buck sighting, only does. So I decided to try out a new draw on the same property that I had not been to since late spring. I ended up seeing a 135-140" buck that I passed up, along with 4 other small bucks and about 10 does. I decided against shooting anything that night in hopes of seeing something bigger. The next day, I was planning on going to the very far north draw on that property, but I got tied up working on my deer processing shed until late. Off the the draw I saw all the deer I went around 4:00. At 5:05, I saw the 135-140" buck I passed up the night before, and he started heading my way. I was watching him work his way towards me, then I looked back to where they were coming out and there was another buck feeding on acorns. He looked pretty big from the backside, then he started working his way towards me as well. He worked his way closer and closer, until he was 28 yards from me, then he smelled something he didn't like and got a little skittish. I drew back and let it fly. The Rage did its job, and I found him about 15 mins after I shot.
Great story to go with a great buck. After seeing your pics I do remember seeing you at the GTG, but we did not meet. Hopefully, that 135-140" buck will make it 'til next year for you!
Meeting my brother and dad at the farms we're hunting & doing work this weekend. They won't be down until after dark tomorrow night so I'm going to go glass a fields to see where someone needs to setup tomorrow evening. Good luck to everyone hunting. Great story too Cole!
Good luck Rory! And everyone else getting out this weekend. I probably won't be doing much hunting until Thursday afternoon, this torture institution they call college is making me jump through some hoops they call exams lol. I will put down the next good sized doe that comes by
YaaY! 24 hours and I'll be up getting ready for first day in stand. I sure hope today goes by quickly. Good luck to all who hunt this weekend
I will be out in the morning, not liking the NW wind for the property I hunt but hopefully something gets dropped.
I don't like the NNW winds that'll be here all day either for tomorrow. Did some scouting this afternoon while waiting for my brother and dad to get here and figured some stuff out for the next couple weeks before things start to get flooded and also stumbled across a pretty nice shed. Always seem to find them when I'm not looking for them, but can't find them when I am looking. Out of the 20 or so different bucks I had on camera last fall I don't think this came off of one that I had a picture of.. Good luck in the morning everyone!
Congrats Cole....great looking buck! Going to get out today and Sunday afternoon. Work schedule has been too hectic to get out during the week.
