Wow thanks for the offer! Not sure I'll have a chance to, saving my time for next month, but thank you!

Would you have any interest in coming up and helping me do a spotlight count on the wma this week or next?

Is there a day that would work better for you than others? Preferably a week night for me. It's a chance to get an idea of what is on the area. It is a lot of fun and a good way to see good bucks

I could come up Tuesday evening after work or Wednesday evening. Either would work for me. Also off this weekend coming up. Weekday would be better for me also.

Sounds good to me! I've never been on anything like that. Would be neat to see what is walking around. Especially if we see one of those big bulls.

An your talking to a guy that blindfolds people that I take to my duck spots lol.

It's a late night, usually finish around 1230, drive 15.4 miles slowly. We count all deer/elk/furbearers. I can ALMOST promise a good buck or 2, and we will almost certainly see 5-10 of out mature bulls.

Now you sound like a man after my own heart! If they don't know where it is they can't give it away!

Iv actually never seen a bear on a spotlight count. They are a pretty uncommon sighting in general. I may see them crossing a road or something 2 or 3 times a year, on a good year. Bobcats are pretty secretive. There is a population in there, but iv seen them only 2 or 3 times in 5 years, excluding the ones myself or others had trapped

Didn't you see a bear a few years ago from your stand? They are becoming pretty common around my house these days.

Yep came right in at dark, then turned and ran right toward the truck when I spooked it off...
I actually have been working with an osu research project to determine population size. It's dramatically different north of the arkansas vs south.
In 5 years of trapping we have tagged less than 60 individuals in cherokee/adair/sequoyah counties. In 1 summer trapping down south, they caught and marked over 100 individuals

I know down by our cabin in big cedar they are pretty thick. I live on the north side of the river now in Sequoyah county(north of Muldrow now). I have seen 2 in the last couple years. The GW also told me there had been a few confirmed lion sightings in adair county. Not sure how true that is but i believe they are hit every ince in a while.

Yea that area is thick. Iv actually been thinking about going down and trying to get on a public land bear, saw 8 in a day down there once.
They are expanding up here, I don't doubt at all that you've been seeing them down there. Have either had ear tags?
Idk about confirmed in adair county. None that I know about, but in oklahoma we have had 10 I think since the early 2000's that were able to be confirmed.

One that we saw did have ear tags. It was actually on my buddies lease just north of our house. We thought it had a collar also but couldn't tell for sure. The other did not. If you want to see them in big cedar you just go sit by the dumpsters for an hour or so an they will come out. I can't hardly stomach that 100$ tag when i have a lifetime. Maybe one day they will change that.
