Didn't see anything yesterday. Went out in the morning and afternoon. I didn't hear a single shot either. Deer just haven't been moving around here.

I went out this morning and hit the river for the last day of duck season (will start again here in a few weeks). I got a wood duck early. Saw tons of ducks though, but it was the only one that got close enough.
It was actually my first duck ever, only my 5th time out. Pretty excited and can't wait to get back at it!

I pulled cards today and tended to the feeders.
I was missing a few of the big boys, most notably...the 2 big tall tens (unnamed) and Gnurley the one with a downturned left mainbeam. Hopefully those turn back up.

On the bright side, Meat Hook was still alive as was the big tall 8...sorry I'm running out of names, lol.
This is the tall 8, was too lazy to upload Meat Hook's pics.

Man that guy is a hoss Brent. My cards have been empty besides a little buck that only had 4 points on one side.

I think this weekend I'll be able to make it south. I wish I had a field I could hunt over, I've been seeing a lot more deer coming into the fields at night.
If it starts to get late in the season I'll talk to my friend and see if I can hunt his field. At least it will get me a good doe and meat in the freezer.
Still time but quickly running out.

Next year, I'm shooting everything early, not going to wait on the "big one" any more. In the last 2 years I've left 260" of deer in the woods waiting for 340" of deer.

Shooting your deer early is a good idea, that's what I try to do and then I have a full season to fill my extra tags at my leisure.

Landlord told me the other day that I (we) need to start taking more does out so I guess I'm not done for the year. I didn't really want to take any more out this late after rut for fear I'd be possibly killing trophy producers next Jun-July but they are way too thick.

I ordered a heated motorcycle ensemble of cloths the other day that work off 12V. I'm going to put a small battery in a backpack and hunt this cold weather with heated clothing (if it works). As much land as we have we may have to start allowing management hunts to a select few people just to get a handle on this buck to doe situation in the future. I'm the only one that hunted here this year...

We're getting a couple of big feeders next week from Big Buck Supply, a 1200# and a 350#. These are the same as the big 1200# one on the Crush Cam on Lee and Tiffany's site. I'm going to eventually put one up near the grain bins and put a webcam on it, the other farms don't actually have any power access to them so I guess those will remain trail cams only. Making big plans for 2014 already, eventually planning on having around ten of these feeders total and adding another dozen or so cameras this coming year.

    Nice buck Brent.

Went out in the 20 degrees last night with the smoke pole. Shot her at 50 yards. Biggest doe I've shot Ina while. Pics don't do justice but I bet she dresses at 150.

That is a big doe! So... You didn't have a tarp for the backend to keep it from getting bloody?

Lol, nice job! Yeah that first pic does make her look little, the second one does her justice though....she looks huge in that one.

    What happened to your F150?

You got it Okie. No tarp and I was by myself or it would have been on the hood or roof.

And I had to sell it Brent. Twins on the way.

Ha I know it was a sad day. But it was getting up there in miles and this was a steal so I couldn't pass it up. Oh, and babies.

Tho I think a nice crew cab super duty would fit everything nicely.

I drive a Duramax Diesel 2500 crew cab. Its a real family car LOL my daughter calls it "big truck".

All kidding aside though. My wife drives a GMC terrain SUV which is really roomy and spacious for a SUV. But when we go to Florida we always drive down in the truck. People associate SUV with family car. I did the same. But to me nothing more is needed if you have 3 or less kids. 3 fit in the back in car seats no problem. And trunk space??? clearly not a issue. Trust me, I have one kid and a SUV gets packed pretty tight going just out for the day. Stroller alone takes up half the trunk. Mind you strollers today have power steering, all wheel drive, sunroof and power windows. So they are huge!!! Truck with a cap brother!!! That's the way to go

I didn't sell my truck when I had my girls. It's an extended cab but we've always made it work. They love riding in it actually.

I got out there today thinking the cold would move them. It was -33 with windchill. That's -27 Fahrenheit. Indy in case your wondering how my ridge reaper suit held up in that cold. Well lets be honest anything short of a brick house and a furnace will be cold lol

Saw a coyote. As soon as I moved a inch my boots literally had to peel off the metal of treestand foot rest. Sitting there in that cold actually froze my boots to the stand. I peeled them off making noise of course me the yote was gone

I gotta go to the woods... Hopefully I'll have something to report later other than a squirrel kill.

Meanwhile at the yote crossing... 2 mangy ones came thru & no shot. Guess I may have to get serious about thinning them out. 4th sit on this place this year and I have seen 0 deer but always plenty of yotes.

I haven't been seeing deer on the land. I'm kind of stuck hunting at the house due to the weather. We've been getting a lot of snow on Friday nights into Saturday morning and in some cases the spot I want to be in is under snow emergency. Hopefully next weekend I'll be heading south to stay at the cabin where the deer are more thick.

Been seeing more coyote tracks than deer around here. I'm thinking of going out this afternoon with my calls and black powder rifle, if I don't see a deer I'll give a few blows and try to kill one er two!
