That's very interesting you say that Jared...
I sat all day today, 6 am to 6 pm. This is technically public land but only by 80-90 yards. Anyways, I've sat here a few times this season. Every time I see deer in this stand. Today I was completely skunked. I saw 1 deer and it was as I was pulling in. It watched me put my outer layers on and get my stand ready before it ran off.

I'm planning on hitting it again tomorrow. Surely it won't happen twice. There were a few nice scrapes near my stand location though.

Went out to some public land this afternoon and punched my tag. Honestly I was just ready to get my kansas season done and, more importantly, my WIFE was ready for my season to be over! He's not what I would usually punch my tag with but as you guys know, this had been a rough one for me. Should go about 115 but will put a tape to him tomorrow. Still have a few days in Illinois late season and about ten days of rut hunting in Alabama left when we visit family for Christmas...[IMG]

HEy, there's nothing wrong with that deer!!!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! He's pretty, nice job!

Indy, action has really slowed down here as well. I'm still seeing deer but not like I was. I believe the bucks are really locked down with the few doe that are left and the lessor bucks seem to be expanding their ranges so they are harder to hone in on.

Nice Buck! I've been out several times and haven't been able to put anything together. I pulled my cards to the trophy cam and had the big 11 in daylight last week several times in the a.m. but I never saw him when I was there. I have been taking my son to try to get him something with his rifle but starting Thursday morning thru Sunday ill be going with the bow.

Been busy a lot with work lately. Apparently no one cares I want to hunt lmao.

Nice pic covey. If I show you my trail cam pics you would think I'm using kibbles and bits as bait. COYOTES daily!!!

He's huge, those are redwoods in the background and that salt block is 6'x6'. I estimate he has a 12' spread, lol.

Haha, he's not huge but he's pretty nice, he's a ten point and looks mature enough to take if he walks in front of me. I've not gotten a lot of great deer on the cams here at home this year. Most of the nicer ones have been on the rental properties.

Cunningham I can't be happier for you buddy! I know it's not exactly what you wanted but you hunt it hard and punched the tag. That guy needs to be on the wall no matter the size.

I've been in stand 24 of the last 48 hours and have come up completely empty. Actually, the only deer I saw was the one watching me get my gear on the other morning. She was about 60 yards and don't worry, had it been shooting time, I would have sent one her way. I'll be going out to my place here in just a few minutes, then tomorrow morning, Friday morning, Saturday and Sunday.
After that it's back to work and back to weekends only until 12/21 when Christmas shutdown starts.
I'm starting to get frustrated but after writing this, I have quite a bit of time left.

My buddy text me and said he still had some big boys running around during the light but he has some great land.

My next step is to re-evaluate my spot on the public land. It's not as remote as I thought. At 5 pm last night I could see some guy out walking around. Not sure why or what he was doing, but 5 pm... really!!??

Ha, sounds tough Indy...keep after it and good luck! I'm glad I tagged mine early for this contest...I think hunting here now with a bow would be flipping hard and pretty humbling too.

I just spent all morning checking and sighting in five rifles. Landlord wounded a doe the other evening and even I nor my dog could find her. Last blood I found she had climbed a 30' tall highwall and there was a small pool at the top and then nothing. His 30-06 was way low and way left at 50 yards. I zeroed it an inch high at 100 yards. He also had me do a 300 mag....that thing is a freakin beast! I shot a box of shells through it getting it sighted in at 100 yards...man it was fubar'ed too. He had a .308 to do too, that was a pretty sweet gun. Then I checked my 30-06 and a 357 for my mom that was off quite a bit.

I must have shot 5 pounds of shells this morning and my shoulder feels like I stood and let a damn mule kick me for an hour, lol.

Hey that buck will always have the story if the lost monster. It's what makes us love the hunt so much and the stories that last a lifetime. Congrats man and be proud of that buck.
