I'm pretty excited to check cams from my place. I have not been there in a month since I killed my buck oct 19

I need to take a dog to the vet tomorrow for a cough...but when I get back (and if it has rained) I'm going to try to get over to the west 350 acres and pull the one camera I have not checked since it was placed in Sept. I'm sure the batts are probably dead by now and the 32gb card is probably maxed out (I hope). Going to place a stand over there too. I got a few really decent 10's and a nice 8 over there on the one camera I did pull a few weeks ago that was on the east side of the property. The remaining cam is over in the middle of it on a four way trail intersection by a gate and on a creek, lol.

I just had to LOL...I was looking through all my cam pics from this year, 1000's upon 1000's....it's utterly rediculous. I knew we had a lot of pretty neat deer around the area but good grief...After having out 14 trail cams on so much ground this year I literally am amazed at the shear number of deer and quality deer around here. All my pics are taken in an area approximately 3 x 3 miles and mostly on the southern border of that area.

I'm not trying to brag here, has little to do with me except for maybe 700+ acres of crops in that area and food plots but the crop has always been there....I'm just amazed at the fact that most people really haven't a clue whatever just how many deer and big bucks are around. Just really cool!

I had to run up to Chicago for the day for my work visa. Hopefully I make it home in time to hit the woods for 2 or 3 hours.

Raining, wet, nasty...sob here today. I just slept in...
Long range forecast for here looks pretty decent and they took the rain chance out for tomorrow.

It just makes a MI boy cry when I see the amount of good bucks you have at your fingertips. I would be in the stand.

Trail cams have really given us a new perspective on wildlife populations. Previously most of us relied on sign (tracks/trails, rubs, scrapes for deer) and direct observation in the field. Even relying on direct observation doesn't give you a 24x7 view cause you are not in the field those hours.

Most of the time, our estimates of populations is probably really low... Most people, myself included, are really surprised at what they discover on cam after putting one out in the field.

I am certainly a big fan of them and they are fun to boot!

Impressive indeed...but I'll be honest I know folks in MI with 500+acres that have this same thing. Amount of ground per hunter plays a huge factor not so much the location of the ground...but location can dictate common gene pool and what potential is.

Of course Ty....I also do not have 500+ acres. But see where you are coming from... This could happen anywhere the pressure is low enough and deer are given the chance to grow. Rare in MI, but I get it.

Kansas is different than MI no matter how you put it tho....:cry: lol

I always thought of MI as one of the better deer states for populations? Deer numbers like here around my properties, isn't all that commonplace here in MO or KS as far as most people know but most of this ground is not hunted to speak of. The deer here are probably more pressured from road hunters and spot lighters than anything else besides yotes.

Yep, exactly the point I was sort of making. I never realized just how good the population was here on these farms. Of course some of them are new additions in the last three years since I quit bowhunting and don't rifle hunt in KS. I would see a lot of deer tracks around the crop fields and food plots but didn't realize the actual numbers until these trail cams. The most cams I had out in years past was 5 here on the home place and always got a lot of deer and new deer moving in and out during rut. It's just amazing to think there are that many deer all around.

Spot on. We have fantastic genetics here but I think we lack some soil mineralization that produces freakish brutes in other areas on a regular basis. I know we have the genetics to make a lot of junk and odd points and non-typical deer, decent mass, etc...but some bit of something seems to be missing to really push the common buck over 130-140ish. I know that's pretty decent for a "common" deer but I'm going to try to push that up a good 20" in the next few years.

Hey guys, I was able to get home in time to get about 2 hours in. About an hour before last shot I heard all kinds of rukus coming from the field. I turned to see a few bucks chasing a few does. I was not able to see the size because it was dark and they were running like crazy.
At one point I heard one set come crashing through the opening in the fence but I never saw them. A lot of the times they run through the fields and into our woods. Unfortunately it did not happen tonight.
Oh, my friend down the street got a real nice 10 point. It was a young deer but really good size. There are some very good genes in this area.

All I have to get through is tomorrow and its hunting for the next week!!! They are chasing harder now than they have been yet!

Oh yeah, I saw a MONSTER of a buck chasing a doe just south of Chicago.

Sounds like a pretty good evening in the stand. I'm always satisfied if I can keep my streak going and see deer from my deer stand whether or not I take anything. I think I have (at last count) 22 or 23 sits without being skunked and not seeing at least one deer. Including gun sits since I just got back into archery this year.

The other teams are really laying deer down here lately...:throw:

Drago, I am born and raised in central Indiana.
I work for Toyota (forklifts) as project lead in the quality department. Recently, Toyota built a plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil and establishing their quality department was one of my projects. I was there in April but the visa I had expired so I had to go get it renewed today.
I have to go down there the second week of december to check on things. Thankfully I'm only traveling during the week and it's just one week.

It's a pretty cool country. I'm definitely not looking forward to the heat (it's summer there). The food is amazing and the beer is easy to get and ice cold. Plus I'm a huge soccer fan and the country is into that as well.

I was offered the position to lead the quality department but with kids and everything, I just couldn't. It was pretty fun driving around Sao Paulo in a bulletproof toyota though. The windows were like an inch thick.

I'm pretty lucky that my job let's me travel a bit. I should be going to Japan again here the first of the year. That place is awesome.
However, most days I wish I had gone into business for myself doing something along the lines of construction / real estate.

Lol, they look nice but man...they are high dollar for a thinish jacket..whoa.

I think I'll stick with my Walls realtreeAP insulated coveralls and a layer or two underneath. I've spent about all I care to on hunting stuff this year. New bow, case, all accessories and new cloths and five new deerstands. It's fun to spend but I think I've about reached my yearly allowance, lol.

Besides my deer (Spirits) mount I paid a couple hundred down on...holy crap I can't wait to get that thing back. He had a new form I fell in love with that just seemed to fit perfect and it's different from anything on the wall which is awesome and not easy to accomplish, lol. It's a Van Dyke form, I like the detail they design into them though I realize most of it is lost when the cape goes on. It's a pedastal mount that can be either wall hung or set on a table. I thought the right turn would show off the junk on the backs of the main beams:

The thin-ness of the material definitely has me worried Brent. However, it's so much less bulky than what I have. Also, I have a lot of UA gear and it's always highly impressed me and lived up to the hype.

I had a couple hundred in bass pro gift cards from work (holiday gift, 5 year service, random thanks) so the whole setup was basically free. Still, nervous to see the outcome.

UA makes awesome stuff, no doubt about it. I would take a set of it and try it too if I was still in the hunting gear buying mood or if it was free. I am a huge fan of UA though....the infared tech sounds nterresting. The best set of base layer I have is UA, I was pencil near ordering a new set the other day from Amizon...may still do that.
