Hey guys, it's looking like unless someone gifs him by chance it's a no go for the buck. The odds were stacked against me where he ran...it's 40 solid acres of the thickest, nastiest hedge that I have ever seen. Cedars, locust and thorns and nothing else. My dad drove all the way from Illinois to grid search with me and we got one other person to help. This is what it looked like after we were done. We walked all the edges too but didn't mark them. Each pin marks 20 yards with three men walking it out. Don't know what else to do. [IMG]

The blue dot....straight north of that....is that round spot a pond? Might check out any water holes if there are any.

Sometimes they just can't be found, it's hard to imagine but maybe he will survive. There's not a hell of a lot a person can do in that thorny crap, even a dog don't work very well in it.

Tough luck...crap happens like that..just go stick another one. You may shoot 50 more deer and never have it happen again.

Okie, I was over in the thread earlier and resisted the urge to talk smack...I can cause enough trouble unintentionally, lol. I was just giving Chago a hard time because I know him well enough to be comfortable doing so....he's generally a bigger joker than I am, lol.

Cunningham! Buddy don't give up. You showed good sign of death. I'm with Brent on this one. If you can, check the water. When deer are sick, they commonly go to water.
Keep looking man, you shot a great buck, get him on your wall!

I agree check the water. I have a friend that had to wade into a river to retrieve one.

Check the water and if you know a common bedding area check it out. Some people argue when a deers shot they just run like a chicken with their heads cut off. I find that very untrue. Almost every deer I've shot ran and bedded in their normal bedding area or fell short of it, but were on way. Almost always they head in those directions. But ya water for some reason is always a good spot to look. I don't know if its myth or not but for some reason I have seen it too. Deer run to water when injured.

The shock the animal is in when shot almost masks the pain. They just get stung hard by something and they are like hell get back to base camp and figure it out when we get there. Most of time dieing along the way or when they get there.

I've seen injured deer head for water is why I said that but yes....every deer that I have ever shot and had to track for myself seemed more prone to head for their normal bedding area and/or the thickest nastiest chit they can think of. I'm afraid that's what Cunninghams deer did when he went into that thorn thicket and if so, he's pretty much unrecoverable to all but the most stubborn SOB's on the planet with not one care (or nerve ending) in the world.

That one doe I shot this year went into the timber which is waist deep buckbrush, hedge, locust, walnut...you name it junk. It was so thick I walked past her and didn't see her and actually had brush rip a button off my coverall pant leg while wading around in it. That's the one it took my dog all of about 15 minutes to find. Dragging that doe out was a real b*tch.

But yeah sometimes they head for water, being that thicket is so nasty, if there's water around fairly close Id check it just for peace of mind if nothing else. There's a thread on here somewhere that has a pic of a buck that went to water and expired and another where a guys nephew shot a buck and it crawled in the river and washed away. It happens and might salvage the deer.

Ya searching for my lost doe was same problem. So many thorns ended up making some holes in my brand new under armour ridge reaper coat and pants.

    Hey Drago!
How do you like that ridge reaper gear? I have a lot in gift cards and was looking into going with that. If it's warm enough for you up there, I'm sure it will be for me down here.
    Any advice for using it?

well don't look at it that way. One persons warm is another's freezing LOL

I love it for two reasons, thin and quite. Up here it gets so damn cold no matter what you wear you start feeling cold. But IMO for myself its a warm coat. I judge that based on, I don't get wet when it rains. And I don't feel the cold wind penetrate. That's all any coat will provide you, that outside layer. All the fluff and crap inside any tshirt and sweater can replace. I guess what Im saying is I love the suit because it truly is made for bow hunters, super quite and nice and thin. And I haven't noticed being any colder? so the infrared technology they use must work well because the jacket is as thin as hoodie.

Cool, thanks for the opinion. I'm pretty cold natured so it should work pretty well.

You have to realize some people really have nothing better to do and sometimes their inner ***hat comes out and they don't even realize it. It truly speaks to their character.

Hope we hear back from Cunningham soon that he found his deer. Contest aside, that's a good buck and would suck to lose.

That and some people are just natural dusch bags.....
I bet the mods get all kinds of people questioning scores....I bet mine gets more complaints than yours because of the non-typical score and the stickers that aren't obvious in the pics. The 8+" of odd points, etc...of course one of those is actually a G4 that was over 3" but still...
I have yet to hear anything about it one way or another though. Fitz never say anything at all....must be on his bad side too.

It's laughable. I'm honestly not bothered and didn't even respond.

Yeah I think Fitz knows it's close and we're not trying to pull anything. I wouldn't worry a bit.

Man guys I am itching to get back into the stand.

I did get my 3 muddy lifelines in yesterday. I got them off amazon for $30 each. Best part is, shipping was free and took 2 days. They have a lot of warehouses here in the central midwest so shipping takes no time at all.

Tonight I have to go home and do some muddy stand maintenance, then get the truck loaded up. Going to try to take off work an hour early or so to hunt tomorrow afternoon. Not sure how the boss feels about that yet.

Everyone that wants to kill a bruiser needs to be spending time in the stand now. Cutting beans this morning and a stud of a buck walked across the neighbors hayfield about 600 yards away and he was awesome! Had his nose to the ground and traveling at around 10 am.
Giant rubs and scrapes showing up all over theplace too and I got a big ten point on cam here at home yesterday. He's a completely new deer never seen before.
