Lol I didn't think they day would ever come. But yes I've brushed barbies hair with my daughter lol at one point I caught myself actually taking it serious and trying to make it nice. When I realized that I quickly dropped it, walked into garage, drank a beer and started doing some push ups lmao

What you guys think to early for all day sits? What sort of spot do you look for to sit all day? Trails?

short answer - now & for the next month?... known travel routes/escape routes from bedding/travel funnels/travel pinch points

In my opinion, the only reason you shouldn't EVER be not sitting all day anywhere/anytime is because for whatever reason you just can't or it's just a marginal spot to begin with. ALL deer, maybe most but certainly not ALL, do not behave according to 'the rules.' Sure there are times of the year (rut) when it can be more advantageous to sit all day in a known good travel route stand, but you never know what is happening in the woods unless you are there. me personally, I can sit all day without it bothering my mind... my back and butt say different the older I get.

like they say... you can't kill em if you're not there when they walk by

prime example - there was absolutely no reason for me to be sitting all day on October 19, especially not necessarily at 3pm. I got down at lunch, mucked up the woods by pulling cam cards at my cams, went back to the truck that because of the size of my property is not very far from my stands at all (although it is generally out of sight because of the terrain), looked at cam pix, ate lunch, etc... I decided that I would go sit the ridge stand again till 4 and then move down to the point stand. I was bored to death... back was killing me... daydreaming... waiting on 4pm so I could get down and walk around and move stands... this is a ladder stand up on the ridge and actually at one point I had laid down across the bench with my feet up relaxing till I realized that would not be a good position to be in IF a deer broke the rules and did come strolling by mid-day. then a doe came running up the hillside and I thought that was kinda weird for a doe to be running like that... something must be chasing her... coyote? freaked out by my truck (she had come from that direction)? hhhhmmmm... hey maybe a buck is chasing her even though chasing should not really be happening in Oklahoma on oct 19. as I stood up and grabbed my bow, sure enough it was a buck chasing her. he's dead now, but if I had opted to skip out mid-day and come back for early season prime time only, I would not have had the opportunity to kill him.

shorter answer - why not sit all day if you can afford to be there

There were several deer killed between 10-2 this past weekend on the youth hint I took my boy on. Also several bucks were rattled in.

Too bad you couldn't get your son connected with one, but thanks for takin him!

Things should be heating up here over the next few weeks. The cold weather will help too...

Good evening in the stand guys, had a really pretty young nine point work a scrape and then proceeded to follow my evercalm trail right to my tree.

Did I shoot him or not...what do ya think?

No, haha, I let him walk on. I think he was maybe 2+ years old or maybe 3+ he had a nice looking rack but he sure wasn't much of a hoss. Maybe had 100" of antler. I thought long and hard about taking him but it's pretty early yet to be compromising on young deer for this contest. Though the meat would be freaking incredible and that doe ain't gonna last long, lol.

Should I shoot something like this for meat and for team points or just wait? I have him on camera along with about five just like him so it's a pretty safe bet I can take one of these deer later on. I was looking for "Toadie" that I posted a pic of the other day, that stand is near the camera I've been getting him on. I will deffinitely take him if he walks by, maybe a 130-140"+ deer with lots of character.

    Covey you crazy! Lol

There's twelve guys a team. If we each get a doe and a 100" buck we easily win this thing. Last years winner was like 1300 or something.

Oh man...I know, during the four or five minutes I was watching this deer...that thought just kept flowing through my mind. That's exactly why I am asking you guys right now what you think because I'm going to be hunting that same stand in the morning and if you think I should take a buck like that (a relatively sure thing vs a maybe) instead of a big one then I'll be happy to take the smaller one (if given another chance). I'm not all that hep on taking a young buck but I really would like to have one for quality meat anyway and I haven't been getting a lot of deer within range during shooting light.

Then there is always the chance that he only had 90" instead of 100"....these smaller deer are just a gamble for me on guessing antler score. His antlers were pretty spindly...I have him on camera I'll see if I can find his pic saved somewhere and post it up.

I'm not 100% positive but I think this is the guy. If not he's one of the several that are really similar. The first pic of the sequence shows he's maybe 14" wide at best and he has a 9th point on the left main that is sort of hidden in this pic. Really pretty deer, but easy to let go after seeing all these bigger ones walking around on camera...problem is they are just on camera, lol.

PICT0079.jpg This is the same spot I got my doe.I thought my batteries were dead last week and since I shot a doe here I figured I'd move to a different spot so I pulled the camera. Tonight as I was driving the camera lit up so the batteries weren't dead. Now I'm looking at the pictures and I find this guy I know he's not huge but he's the best I've got right now!

He looks like he's a nice mature deer though, nothing wrong with that deer as far as I can tell.

Obviously you need to stay in that spot, Bob, and poke that dude! Was he checking that scrape that you could see from your stand?
