Haven't been on in the last two days. Did a lot of scouting last few days and put up more groundblind set ups then I ever have in 2 days all in preparation for the learn to hunt my father puts on every spring. Ill be able to slip out of work around 1am to make it up to the property with the gentleman I'll be taking. He has lived in America for three years now speaks very broken English has never fired a gun and owns no camo but I don't think I have ever seen anyone so excited to turkey hunt. Just setting up the blinds with him was a blast. I'm recording everything on film and already have some awesome clips from scouting. I'm just happy I'll be calling in gobblers come Saturday morning then finally I'll be the one hunting starting next Thursday. Gonna be a good year boys I can feel it. Oh and found these two dead heads IMG_0618.jpg IMG_0620.jpg IMG_0624.jpg

Well boy, that's why they call it a learn to hunt....anyone with any experience with bow or gun woulda got one today. Called a Tom into the decoys alone and the gentlemen I'm with never got steady Cuz the gobbler never stopped moving and we watched him walk away another lesson smarter. Lots of weekend left!

Alright here's the story. We were set up right where I had watched birds work morning after morning year after year when the birds started gobbling right where they always have. They were loving the calling and had them going crazy on the roost. Finally we heard them fly down and thought for sure they would come storming in but like turkeys always do they hung up just inside the woods but still gobbling and could hear lots of hens talking to (great learning experience). We were set up facing the west when at about 7 I looked out the back of the blind all I saw was a red head coming over the hill and once he saw the decoys he came running in and was in the decoys within seconds and as he was trying to get his shooting sticks and gun moved over he caught some movement and moved off never giving us a shot. To say he was disappointed is an understatement, looked lie someone ripped his heart out. The original birds were still fired so our attention went back to them. Fast forward to 10 and he was ready to head in for lunch when we started packing up when out of nowhere three toms came running out of the woods and in a matter of seconds he was on them and when I said shoot there was no hesitation when and he hammered his tom at 20 yards. He was jumping and yelling I was just as fired up as him. Was a great hunt lots of vocals and great birds in the area capped with good shot and great memory. A soon as I stop typing I'm going to mount his tail and start getting ready for my hunt Thursday. Cant wait!

Sounds like a great experience! I have nothing to report, another frustrating weekend that the turkey were one step ahead of me. :-(

Finally tomorrow is the day for my first tag! Get off work at 6am and should be in the blind completely set up ready to rock at no later then 11. No doubt the birds are there just a matter of getting them in front of me. On my Illinois spot today went to check the cams and didn't even make it over the first hill and ran into a flock so just turned around and left. I might be absolutely crazy saying this but I might like turkey hunting more then deer.

Awesome congrats CJ. Keith and I will be going out next weekend. last weekend we had them behind us at about 10 yards but no shot opportunities... thanks for the comments on the show. Just got one of my computers back virus city and the other one my desktop died so back to the beginning loading everything back and all those passwords and settings what a pain. Be a week before I get my new computer.

    Good luck guys
