Not shaping up to be a very good season at all. I've now lost my first alternate archery hunting spot, the guy who has let everyone who asked hunt his land for the past 25+ years, is now only letting his friends hunt it. I'll still try to shoot another doe for the contest, but I'm not holding much hope with the spots I have left. Sorry I lost my pics from the one I did shoot. My only realistic chance at a buck now is in Ohio, but I'm limited on time & I haven't killed one over there since 08.
No. Barely getting out, & when I do I havent seen anything. I have potentially only 3 more days to hunt archery the rest of the year. This weekend & halloween day. If I get anymore time to hunt beyond that will all depend on how my elk hunt goes.
I've had too much family, work, and school to be hunting too much. I have a week of vacation coming up but at this point I'm not even sure when I'll be able to take that. I should get 2 really good sits in this weekend though. Tomorrow evening and Sunday morning. There's a buck that's been coming by a certain stand every evening. Hoping to get a hold of him Saturday. So far, my closest encounter with a buck was the one a foot and a half in front of my truck, of course it was a mile down the road from my hunting grounds.
This is my new prospect. A buddy sent me this picture to get me worked up about hunting this weekend. He said there are more pictures all during daylight hours starting this summer up until last weekend. I'm hunting this property on Thursday.
Hi team. Had a good day in the woods Saturday, all be it a very soggy one. The morning sit produced 4 bucks & 5 does & a bobcat! 1st bobcat I've seen live in person. The evening had 3 doe & a very big 4pt. Sunday I got rained out, and wednesday might be the same unless the hurricane moves thru quickly. There's a chance I am done bowhunting for the year, but I hope not.
Hey guys, it's been pretty slow around here. If it's not raining I'm going to try and make it out to the woods after work. I'm going to do a little scouting deeper in the woods. I am off next week to do nothing but hunt. The week after that will be skimpy but I can still get the weekends. There's still a ton of more time in my season and there are some really nice bucks on camera. Thankfully, deer are starting to come back onto our land and I'm seeing more and more recently. The last count on EHD was 15 found in the fields, I'm not sure what the woods looked like and it's not my property.
Hey guys! Things are starting to rut up around here! I've seen bucks chasing does and a neighbor said he saw some at 3 in the afternoon, and it was a monster of a buck! He doesn't come on my land though unfortunately. Also, I have pretty much all of next week off to hunt. Hopefully I can get the job done. I pulled a muscle in my back so getting the bow drawn may be a dilema, but there's no way I'm going to let anything walk in front of me without an arrow (except for a little one!).
I'll be in the woods all next week also. Cool temps, rut should be in full swing and I have a good feeling about this year. Saw what looked like a 150+ inch 10 point across the road from one of the farms i hunt Tuesday night while i was driving by. Hopefully we will cross paths when my bow is in my hand.
Been seeing deer but haven't been able to seal the deal yet. Last night had a doe but it was a hard shot and she was just way too small. This morning's hunt was rather upsetting. I got busted by a doe. She came in through the thicket under the cover of a squirrel. By the time I knew she was there it was too late, she was running. Really sucks cause she was a big delicious looking doe. I'll be hunting at my house tomorrow. It hasn't been that good lately but I have to work on Wednesday. After that, it's a few days of nothing but hunting. Saturday is duck hunting, I'm pumped cause I've never been.
Man guys, I had an amazing hunt this morning. One of the most action packed I've ever had. Unfortunately for this contest, I didn't put one down. Minutes after I sat down a little 4 pointer came in. No problem, he's way too small take. He leaves. No more than 5 minutes later from the same direction, here comes a doe... now we're in business!!! Well the doe came in and right behind her was a nice 8 point buck! The doe jumped the fence and I got a good look at her, but she was young, very young. I recognized her as one of the twins. Her sister and mom were lost to EHD. Now, back to the buck. I initially thought he was a 3x5. After getting a better look, I noticed he was a 4x5 9 pointer!!!! He was sharp though. He only offered about 2 shots but he simply wasn't big enough to take yet. Maybe if it gets real late in the season he may look more appealing, probably not. I'm guessing he was about 120". He was out to his ears and had nice height, just needs more points and some more mass. I'll be down south Friday - Sunday, we'll see what brings that about!
Passed a few bucks i believe were in the 130's.. a real nice good massed 8 with great height.. still waiting for my big 10 to walk out.
Good work!!! This week off work was a bust for the most part. Has some really good hunts. Passed on 2 9 pointers, probably 120 and 130. I'm hoping to hit my other woods up in the coming weeks. That's where the monsters hang out.
Thanks for the Props guys! He was not much for antler size, but had a big body. He definitely took up some freezer space. And, being my first archery deer, I was on a high all weekend. There are for sure some higher scoring deer in the woods, but this one is a trophy to me.
