Man I take a nice picture... lol. In all honesty the picture does not do that buck justice. Wow, he is a beast
Well, I finally got the pictures of gun season for the crew I hunt with. This is my Dad and my cousin. I have a picture of my cousin's buck in velvet, and the one Dad shot was the buck I saw on the morning of my birthday that was rubbing trees all mornin. Only caught a quick look at him then but I guarantee it's him.
Same to you Brett. I didn't end up hunting yesterday or today because I figured I would give it a couple days for the woods to get settled down from shotgun season. I'm going to be going out in the morning if it isn't raining. I haven't heard anything about big bucks being killed in our area from shotgun season, so hopefully the two shooters my dad had seen will still be lurking around and the does have kicked their fawns out and gone into heat. I guess I'll just have to go out and see.
Guys Just an FYI...Friday Morning I leave for PA Deer Camp (Gun Season). I'll be gone for a week. No internet. So keep us on the front page (hopefully with some successful threads). With tomorrow being Thanksgiving..I wish everyone a Happy Turkey Day. I'll be busy all day, eating, visiting, eating, etc ...so after today I won't be on until my return Shoot Straight and God Bless..
For those of you still hunting for a doe or buck, keep the course! We are right in the thick of the competition. We need to put 1-2 more deer down.............. Enjoy your time in the woods, the hunting season will be over before you know it.
Now Steve, you can't be griping about no time in the woods while you are sitting at the computer!!!:D
Lol!! I bet I beat you out to the stand yesterday afternoon. I believe I was out there at 1:00. On a side note I put up a new stand yesterday afternoon that borders a doe bedding area very close. Been trying to figure out how to set up here the whole rut and finally I found a tree set up that will be "ok" for the normal NNW winds that we usually get this time of year. It's not perfect but It's not bad either. I'm excited about It!! With the wind being sort of Iffy and being with In 60 yards of the doe bedding area I'm not going to hunt It as often as I'd like. Yesterday evening I saw 3 doe's from this stand, all with In 10 yards. Hopefully the next time there's a good buck hot on their tails. I've watched bucks come out of this bedding area before dogging a doe so hopefully I can catch a big guy doing this again come this next phase of the rut.
Thanks Brett!! Honestly I'm no longer hunting the buck I wounded anymore, I gave up on him as of yesterday. Anything In that 130" range Is getting shot at now If I'm lucky enough to see one again. Late season Is always tough for me so we'll see. Before this I actually did let a borderline P&Y 3.5 year old walk at 18 yards about a month ago because I was being stubborn and wanted my buck I wounded, It almost payed off too. I'm enjoying my time In the woods this year. Actually I've learned more this year about bedding area's then I have the last 20 years I've hunted this piece of land. So good things have came out of this no doubt!!
Can anyone else even shoot a doe? Well this week and next week is muzzleloader season here. This coming weekend ill be sitting out with my bow tho. The weather is soppose to get cold and theres a chance for some snow flurries. Plus one of my best fields which is 35 acres of corn will be combined sometime before this weekend and i know ill see one shooter buck out there for sure sometime so im gonna hit it hard this weekend! And maybe i can get another nice buck on the ground.
Man we are so close, we need another buck and a doe down! If any of you plug a buck in December, now that would be sweet!
