You won't believe this Brett. One of my trail cams Is on one of my mock scrapes that I set up for this buck 3 weeks back. I'm selling that camera to a friend so I figured I'd go and hunt that stand tonight with the mock scrape and pull the camera when I'm done. 1st of all, I've sat here 3 times previously and haven't saw anything yet. I've got one trail cam photo of him (my buck) from here on the 13th at 4:50 In the morning. Right before light was done tonight he showed his face at 12 yards. I didn't know It was him until he walked through my little opening which Is about a foot In diameter. Before I could get drawn his lungs were already through the small window of oppertunity. Man I was crushed!!!!!!!!!!!! I got footage of the whole thing though. It turns out after checking the card when I got home he was there the night before as well but It was 6:30 pm that time, about an hour later then tonight. Last night when we walked by he finally walked by with his right side showing to the camera. I finally got some closure on where I hit him the night I wounded him, I hit him high In the shoulder. Another Inch or 2 down and his lungs were toast!! Talk about being close!!! Bowhunting, this can be a game of Inches as well.

How many chances does a guy get though with the same buck? Specially a 4.5 year old! This has been absolutely crazy, never would've dreamed this In the least!! Luck Is going to run out on me eventually. I'm sure you guys and half of bowhunting.com are sick of me telling story's of this buck. It's all been 100% the truth though, tough not to share this experience with everyone.

I am not tired of hearing about it Steve...I love this crap. He is there on your property. I am hoping he makes a mistake and moves earlier in the day so you can get a great shot on him.

I don't gun hunt. All sightings have been with my bow (4 total sightings so far). Gun season opened here on the 7th of November, yesterday the 15th was the last day of the shotgun season around here. We can bow hunt during the gun season.

Well I suppose I can tell my story now!
Friday night was quite exciting. I got out late so i decided to do just a bit of scouting/sneaking. I was sneakin thru our cedar swamp and had a doe come runnin by with two little bucks chasin her. Then i heard a buck grunting out towards the field so i snuck around and just got to the corner when i saw a MONSTER 8 on the field. I grunted and he came right in. 32 yards facing me. unfortunately the wind was blowing right at him and he smelled me. so he turned and went chasing does down the field, and that was that.

I hunted Saturday morning with a lot of movement but not close enough to see what everything was. just lots of grunting and chasing. Midday i spent doing more scouting. Then i got ready and headed out. I was about 100 yards from one of my stands and on a gut feeling i went to my go-to stand, the Rut Spot, where I've killed my two other bucks and always see deer during the rut. As i snuck in there I had a little buck come running right to me. he moved on and i could hear more that were close so i quickly climbed up and got set. not 2 minutes later a doe came slinking thru with 3 bucks on her tail. I couldn't get a great look at them but one was a nice 2.5.
Now I was in stand at 2:30, and by 2:35 I'd seen 4 bucks. A few minutes later a small buck came thru that had both sides broken off at the base. As we went off, I heard a grunt out on the food plot. I could see branches shaking, so i let out two grunts. Boom he came running in and stopped in the brush 30 yards away. he couldnt see the buck that had just grunted so turned to walk off so i let out another grunt.
He turned and came to 20 yards thru the brush and now i finally got a good look at him. One look and I was convinced. He turned and walked to another trail and was at 25 yards. I had to shoot sitting down because of a branch that was hanging down, which i did not think was going to be a problem. I drew back and let out the fateful "baa". He stopped and I put it on and let it fly. Whack, it hit s small twig that sent the arrow straight thru the guts. I was sick. I sent out my texts, and sat and had a big lipper as i thought about what just happened. Immediately i knew i had to wait til the morning.
After watchin fights and drinkin at the Shack Saturday night, not sure if i should celebrate or feel sorry for myself, I finally went to bed. Woke up sunday and got severely nervous. I waited for the 2nd piece of my recovery squad and when he arrived we started out. It took a little bit to find first blood, but once we did, there wasn't a step we couldnt find blood. The Rages really tore him up. Blood was spraying on trees after the arrow came out. my two comrades were lookin for blood when i looked up and saw him laying there! After 100 yard bloodtrail, I had found my beautiful 8 point. It was awesome to share that with my friends, and I felt so relieved that I recovered him.

First off, Happy Birthday Shrek! Looks like you got your birthday present a little early lol

Schultzy, I did hit the guts, but those Rage broadheads really ripped him up good. He only bed down once, which was probably the last place I heard him after i shot, and where I found him.

Had a fun sit this morning! I saw any where from 9 to 13 deer this morning. At least 3 bucks, probably more. 3 of the bucks were chasing doe's heavily this morning, had them all right below my tree for a good 30 minute chasing. A couple other deer that I know were bucks were about 70 yards south of me running a trail nose down that Is just north of a huge doe bedding area. They were good size deer but couldn't see there antlers, to early In the morning. They were each about 30 minutes apart from each other. I ended up getting off my stand about 1:00 today, I was planning on doing an all day sit but my brother hit a big 6 point this morning so we went to trail that at about 3:00. 200 yards later we found his buck. He's a nice looking 2.5 year old 6 pointer, It's the big reason he shot him being he's going on the wall. I got 2 more full days of hunting and then I'm back In the milk truck for a week or so. Bucks are chasing very hard here, scrapes aren't getting touched much. 100% chase mode now I believe.

Here's a picture of my brothers deer.

Congratulations to your brother Steve. I have not seen one instance of any chasing at all this year. Not one buck running after a doe, not one.

Man Steve, I really hope you put one down here in the next two days. I am looking forward to hearing of your success.

For me, I am committed to killing a buck on my home turf, the military base I hunt. Even if it takes me to the last week of December. I want a mature buck to hit the dirt on that place. I know it is going to be difficult due to the 6 weeks of gun season that just started this weekend, but it can be done. At least I will learn along the way, buck or no buck.

GOOD luck tomorrow, looks to be a great day.
