I cannot get over the quality of deer that have been taken this early in the contest. This year is shaping up to be a pretty epic buck year for this contest.
No kidding. I hate to lose but no matter what team slams these brutes on the ground, this is freaking fun to watch.
Ok so I got a little board at work and looked back at the top 3 winners from 2014, 2015, 2016 and came up with these numbers. Winners: Average does killed 9.3 Average bucks killed 5.6 Average score 1167 Hi 1283, low 1023 Top 3: Average does killed 8.5 Average bucks killed 5.6 Average score 1083 Hi 1283, low 958
Folks, I've heard some whispers about concerns over Shane's buck posted on the score card. What I heard was concerning the corpse. Shane shot that buck and backed off over night to keep from pushing him. Shane and ****ie Tunes found him the next day and coyotes had already ripped him up. Shane got the head. It's not like he shot the deer and left it lay not to be used like a trophy hunter that was just after the head. They forgot to include his bow with the first pics so he went back out and retook the pics with the carcass, head and his bow. I've had the same thing happen to deer left over night, it happens. It's an unfortunate turn of events but anyone that has much hunting experience I'm sure can understand. It's just something that happens that no one can completely avoid. The deer was in no way intentionally left to rot for no good reason. I felt the issue needed addressed and I imagine Shane doesn't really feel like rolling the issue around and around, we all know what it's like to have something like this happen, you feel bad enough as it is without having a big stink raised over it. We've all seen worse entered and accepted into the contest, crap happens. He killed it, found it and tagged it so let that be the end of it.
I forgot to put my bow in my pics the night I found my buck. you just get caught up in the excitement of it all. I took mine the next day for the contest but also included my recovery photo for the contest just incase it was needed. I don't want to be skeptical of anyone on here. I would be afraid if that would happen I would lose the fun of the forum.
Stuff happens but I guess if it were me I would have salvaged what I could. From the pictures it looks like the front quarter is still good and you get quite a bit of meat from the neck. But that is his loss in meat if he chose not to try and salvage some.
Covey, like I said, I appreciate it. That is exactly what happened and thank you for putting it out there because it needed to be said. I did the same exact thing as TC, and we even shot our bucks on the same night. In response to the last comment: Believe me we looked at it and it was 80 degrees, coyotes and flies had found it before we did. I can have Richie attest to the fact that most guys wouldn't touch it. The guts exploded all over because they tore them open. Stomach matter, coyotes, and flies marinating overnight is not the kind of meat I want in my freezer. But that's just me. To each his own I guess Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I am good with it counting and this is just another example of why this commentary thread is so nice to have around. Now the stuff about Shane's double life as a hunter and PETA loving ladies man is a whole other story. LOL!
I think it should count, **** happens. It was his kill and he did what he should have done, he backed out. Its not his fault those damn coyotes got it. Great harvest Shane. Know what...it happens. Thats why its called hunting. The man made the best ethical decision he could. It sucks losing an animal to the yotes but at least he got what he could! Definately should count! Sent from my SM-G935R4 using Tapatalk
