Was Quiet Tonight Dang when I walked in I thought for sure something was going to happen, being the crop is still on the ground. The alfalfa is 2 feet high. Normally this would have been off by now. Thought for sure the deer would be on this field, walked out and not a deer to be seen. I put out a TC to see what's around and am using the Black MP6 covert. Hopefully not to bug the big guy if he's still around.Back out tomorrow night, felt like winter in the air on my walk out, was way under dressed, just had a sitka under shirt and camo shirt and pants on. Dropped to 5c by the time I walked out and was 18c when I went in at 3:30. Rocky
Weather is suppose to be crappy tomorrow so I should get off work early & get a chance to check cameras & find the best stand to sit in this weekend! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had him at 20 yards this morning, but instead of staying on the same trail he was on and coming past me a 20yards or less, he decided to go on the trail straight away from me. Going to try again tonight.
It will be raining all day, not sure if I'll have time tonight or not. I didn't see any last night either. But if I do go tonight It'll be on the river.
We made it out for a pm hunt. Took extra pains to sneak in close to a good bedding area. Wind was perfect. We got in only to have a doe get behind us about 45 minutes before quitting time. She busted Britney and spent the next 5 minutes blowing while she walked around. Needless to say... we didn't see anything for the rest of the night. God I hate does when you are buck hunting !!!!!! I would rather be faced with a group of bucks when hunting from the ground then one darn meandering doe !!!! The doe will almost always bust you. Tim
Tonight I had a doe and a fawn come past at 20 and the big old doe smelled me and blew a couple times and the walked back in the trees 5 yards and stood there for 15 min and then walked past at 40 toward where they were originally going. She new something was up but wasn't too concerned. I bet she smelled the thermacell, good thing the rest of my refills are fresh earth scent! Going out in the morning, 47 degrees.
No go Saturday morning. It was just too calm and we would have done more damage trying to get into an area to hunt. Saturday afternoon we made it out. Did a little scouting on the way in. I had a plan before going in on where we were going to sit. I should have stuck to that plan !! While we were slinking around since I veered off course to scout a little... we came into that area a little different. There was buck ( 2 year old ) milling around. I told Britney were there is one buck this time of year... there probably are more since they are still in there bachelor groups. We snuck within 70 yards of him and I got Britney setup up. The buck bedded down in a clover patch We were about 100 yards or so from were I had originally planned to setup. I setup about 70 yards from Britney in another spot I like from scouting on the way in. Britney said I hadn't been gone 10 minutes when a bigger buck got out of the clover patch and walked out towards her. At 30 yards... the buck is moving in the right direction... then little buck got up out of the clover patch. The bigger buck stops and looks at him and then turns around and heads back to him. They both take off and walk right by the spot I was originally going set us up in. I can't see any of this as I have a little knoll blocking my view. I don't see a thing and finally at last light walked back to Britney. Some day I will learn to stick with the plan !!!!!!!!!!!! This morning, I flipping did it again. Britney wanted to sleep in so I decided to go in after Trash. I knew it was going to be wet and nasty getting in there with the heavy dew. On the way in and almost to the spot... I decided to change the plan and setup in a spot with a little better view. It was a good spot for a view alright!!! I got to watch Trash mill around in the spot I was originally planning to hunt about 150 yards away. The plan for tonight with the wind they are predicting... is to setup both of us up about 60 yards from that spot. It is as close as I dare get. Hopefully he heads north and not south. He still is in velvet. So with all this said... I will stick to the plan !!! I will stick to the plan !!!!! Tim
Saw one small buck in the morning and one doe, 7 fawns and 9 coons in the evening. 3 of the coons were messing around 4 feet from me! I have some good video of them. I'm going out tonight and hopefully I'll get my first deer kill on film, I'm trying to get a doe.
Friday night had an equipment malfunction. Had a nocturnal that didn't turn on so I had no idea where my shot went. Shot was 20 minutes before legal shooting time was over but I hunt in heavy woods so it was darker than I would have liked. Went back to that same spot Saturday night with my daughter & saw nothing. Was planning on heading to my mule deer spot tonight with my son but a south wind put the kabosh on that. Suppose to be a 25 degree temperature drop in the middle of the week so I may try to get out then. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Stuck to the plan this afternoon. Trash showed but went just wide of us by about 40 yards. Nice to see him still moving during daylight though. Tim
