Been seeing scrapes pop up the last couple weeks. Had a buck come by my tree on saturday evening after I was already breaking it down. He followed a scent drag right in. No shooting light anyway but I could tell he was big bodied. Hoping the weather cooperates in the next two weeks, I have a bunch of days off coming up.

Anybody been out shed hunting yet? I'd normally say it's a little early but my buddy just shot a button buck (by accident) that had shed its buttons lol

I have been out a few times, but no fresh sheds. I might have jumped a buck on Wednesday and he didn't have a rack. Couldn't get a good look to see if it was a buck or really big doe.

Hey Guys! I want to bring back this thread to see how everyone is doing this year? I started summer scouting already and picked up a nice buck near my house.

Nice! Hopefully your property pays off this year. You going to have more time to hunt this year?

Should get back this year to hunt MD a few times although the schedule is pretty busy. Got a house under contract in Stafford, VA it's 3 some acres and I could deff kill a deer in the backyard. Hopefully we will be moving in mid October !

Definitely, have 90% of my projects done around the house. I'll probably spend a lot of time hunting with the kids this year

Good deal. You know if you ever need a hand finishing up a project, I can give you a hand. That way it might free up some time during hunting season.

Congrats on the house! I got my house about 2 years ago and it's 3 acres also. I ended up shooting a doe last year on it. And the video I posted a couple post up was just off the back of my yard. It can be done on 3 acres!

That'll work. No rush, I figured you had a lot of catching up to do after being out for a while.

I'm planning on taking a long weekend in early October to Dorchester Co. public land. You interested?

I'll look at a calendar tomorrow and try to narrow down a weekend.

Doesn't Harford County have a 50 yard safety zone for occupied residences? How did y'all get it down that close? Montgomery County is down to 100 yards, but it's tough finding five houses in a row that will let me shoot back yards. Meanwhile, the herd continues to grow in the county and state land that surrounds our neighborhood on three sides. I've taken about a dozen in the last three years and donated 2/3 of them to FHFH, but they breed faster than I can harvest them. Like spoiled children that won't eat what Mother (Nature) provides, they prefer my hydrangea, hostas, rose buds, other goodies.

I think I have 150 yards here in Cecil county. As long as you have permission you can hunt as close as you want to the house. And the neighbors you don't need permission to hunt, just permission to shoot with in the legal distance. I know it would make it real hard to hunt in a sub division. But might be worth talking to all the neighbors. You know it's very unlikely that the deer is going to die on the property anyway.

Just logged into Compass and got DNR guidelines. Answered my own question. {:-) Montgomery County now allows archery in the 50-100 yard zone if you are in a tree stand. Ground shooting within 100 yards still requires permission. Signed up for the black bear lottery while I was getting my license and stamps. Cutoff is Aug 31 and drawing is Sep 5 for the Oct 23-26 season.

I've been in Maryland for going on 2 years now and originally lived on Aberdeen Proving Ground where I hunted last year. We moved to Bel Air off of 543 close to US 1 and have what they said was protected woods right behind our house. We are considered in the city limits and was trying to find out what the rules are. Thanks.
