I was wondering if you were using crop kill permits? I didn't think anyone's firearm season had opened yet.

Gotcha. No, in SC the full firearm/archery season opens on Aug. 15 and closes on Jan. 1 for game zone 6 (Lowcountry). No limit on antlered deer. Two antlerless deer per day on designated either sex days. After Sept. 15th, antlerless deer may be taken via antlerless tags (limit 4 per hunter per season). This area has an extremely large whitetail population, hence the very liberal bag limits. Some of the mountainous areas of the state have not seen the gun season come in yet, I believe. I had a small doe and a fawn come within 10 yards behind me. The wind picked up and swirled a that point and I believe she smelled me. She never snorted, but she moved away in a hurry into the creek bottom. Bumped deer in two other locations on my way back to the truck. This was my first excursion for the year because it's just been too darn hot to hunt. Thank the Lord for the Thermacell ot the skeeters would have carried me away!

That's a pretty interesting season, you all must be over run with deer. We have unlimited antlerless tags here but our firearm season is pretty short.

The SCDNR reported an estimated deer harvest of 217,854 for the year 2012. I have seen estimates on deer population for the state anywhere from 750,000 to over 950,000. I found a link to an article published by DNR regarding these numbers and the decline of the population in the state. It also contains a link to the annual deer harvest report, if you're interested.

Another beautiful morning. In graund blind this AM. Had deer spook when i arrived. They came back for some reason after i got settled. They mingled around from before sunrise till just now. Seven does, yearlings, and spikes. Not one fawn from this year in the whole group. HMMMM. Maybe too many yotes around here.. Good luck everyone.

I'll be there in an hour. I live less than 10 minutes from there which is dangerous. Gotta pick up some scent killer spray and I'll be up this afternoon.
